PLEASE HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I recently put up that I was looking for a new fuse box for my 1997 Felicia because my last one was water damaged. I managed to find one from a scrapyard and hoped that was the end to my problems but no. I can not get the car to start at all I have uploaded a link to show exactly what happens when I try and start it. I got it going for a couple of minutes but it sounded like it was running out of fuel and died although it has fuel in it. I'm not an electrician and not been driving long so I have no idea about electrics I would really appreciate if anyone would be able to shed some light on what's going on so I could do it myself instead of trying to get it to a garage.

cheers guys

Phil

Oh yeah... the relay that you pointed and clicks like mad is the fuel pump relay R5, Vital for starting the engine.

Did the relay click like that with old relay box too?

What made you think the relay box is faulty?

Describe in detail how did the problem start. Try to remember any related events.

It is very important to tell us if the new relay box is from the same make of Felicia.

yes it the same part number from the same model as mine. And yeah the old fuse box does the exact same thing. won't start and that relay is clicking like mad!

any thoughts on what the problem could be if the relays okay?

Theory says there is a bad ground somewhere. Usually on the computer (ECU) side. In my opinion only the computer can make the relay close and open in loop. Here is my suggestion step by step:

  1. disconnect battery negative cable
  2. disconnect computer connectors (there is a lock that needs to be slided previously)
  3. inspect pins visually for integrity (well aligned at same distance and height) and corrosion
  4. spray liberally WD-40 in connectors. let ir sit a minute then remove the excess. no need to be totally dry
  5. take out the computer by releasing a catch with a screwdriver
  6. check for corrosion where computer case connects to the ground of the vehicle, spray WD-40 too if needed
  7. install computer and reconnect computer connectors
  8. look for the yellow wire that is connected to the starter motor
  9. unplug that 1-pin connector
  10. clean very well both the plug and more important the socket on starter. use WD-40 for that. no dirt or corrosion allowed
  11. reconnect the plug with yellow wire
  12. reconnect battery negative cable

the ecu connections were filthy and the starter motors connection was the same just took the ecu and that out and just put some dw40 on the connections and gave them a good scrub and started first time. ecu looks like its seen better days though so might go back to the scrappy and get the ecu from the other Felicia if its in good nick
