Trying to copy music from iTunes to SD card

Featured Replies

Hi

So far I've formatted a brand new SD card to FAT32.

I want to copy 500 songs from my iTunes library and put them onto the card. Before this do I have to create a folder on the SD card say called "music" or can I just drop them in without?

Sorry for this but this is new to me.

Many thanks.

Should be able to just drag and drop? If it doesn't work you can go back and create a music folder, although I don't use itunes

Ok I'll give it a go later. I just thought it had to be in a folder first as opposed to just dropping into a card.

Ignore iTunes completely - drag and drop from the folder location on the computer to the root of the SD card.

Does your Swift play i-tunes format music, or just mp3 / wma.

Assuming this is for your car or mp3 player

Copy over one folder with one album of music first, and test it in the player before wasting your time copying music and finding out it doesnt work.

All players have Folder/File limitations, but very few are published, making it very difficult to know what will work

I think it does at it states in the Stereo manual it plays Apple format music. This is new to me so I'll try a few first and see what happens. I normally just Bluetooth but want to transfer all to SD.

Just tried the SD in the HU. It plays MP3 but won't play my Apple purchases in iTunes which are M4a :(

I had 5 songs on there and it would only show the 2 MP3 tracks. Is there a way to change these purchases to MP3?

Looks good on the HU as it shows album art as well.

It's a long shot but I'm sure you can download M4A - MP3 converter online

I'm trying to find info on Google about this. Typical Apple [emoji19]

At least you found out before filling the card with mp3a files.

In the past I have had players that wouldnt play files at certain bit rates - and not only low bit rates either, so check a range of bit rates before copying over en-mass.

Also check to see if .mu and other similar files are recognised.

You don't need to buy or risk downloading an M4A - MP3 converter, iTunes can do it for you.

When I buy music from the iTunes store, I instantly get it to convert it to 192Kbps MP3 format.

You can do this via: Edit - Preferences - Import Settings, then select MP3 Encoder & select the bit rate that you want, then OK & OK.

Now when you download a track from iTunes store, it should show up as [Title] and bit rate of 256Kbps (you need to have the bit rate selected on your library), then select the song you have just downloaded, by right clicking on it, in the dropdown menu, you should see in the 5th group of options the option to "Create MP3 version", just click on it and it will then create an MP3 version of that track at the bit rate you previously selected.

You can then delete the 256Kbps version from the library and temporarily put it in the recycle bin.

When you have done that create a backup folder on your hard drive and then retrieve the file you have just deleted and put it in the backup folder, so if your MP3 collection gets lost of damaged you can replace it, better still burn the backup folder to DVD.

Once you have converted your entire library to MP3, you can then sort your files out and save the M4A files into a different folder and just have your library as MP3, it's just a case of copying your now MP3 library to a SD card or USB drive.

It was a success but some of the converted tracks have now lost there album art. Some show up ok and others don't. How do I put the album art back into the track?

Do I just drag and drop it into the track on the SD card?

If you have the albums in their own folders then you can add a jpg to the folder for album art, most players will look for it in the folder.

Otherwise you need to embed it into the ID3 track for each MP3, there's software for this but the easiest way if you still have it in iTunes is to get the track info up, copy the image, delete the image from the track and paste it back in again (yeah, stupid).

iTunes stores album art externally when it's auto-fetched. Pasting in the image forces it to embed it within the file.
