Rain light sensor which Central Electronic Control Module

Recommended Posts

Hi

Although I have found lots of useful info on this forum this is my first post, so not sure its in the right place.  I followed the guide to retro fit a Golf Mk6 sensor and auto dim mirror.  Wiring done and have VCDS and lead.  However there is no sub menu for the RLS, I can tick the box for RLS in the long code but this does not stick, Im assuming because there is no sub menu.  More research seems to indicate I need a high line CECM.  My question is which one?  Preferably by part number, I have the latter 2010 onward version with 3 plugs underneath.  And then what issues such as central locking key code will I have to overcome?

Thank you for any advice

Simon

Can you confirm exactly what part numbers you've used and the wiring you've done? An autoscan would probably be useful too.

If you do replace it, coding the remote keys should be pretty simple as you don't need to worry about the immobilizer, the biggest problem is likely to be lighting configuration.

For the octavia this can't be correctly coded using VCDS. Instead you need a tool that can access the eeprom of the CECM directly to set it unless the CECM came from a FL octavia VRS. If it comes from any other octavia it will not be correct as only the VRS has LED DRL/sidelights. There are a couple of us on the forum that might be able to help depending where you are.

I have a factory fitted RLS and a highline CECM, included the relevant section of my autoscan below.

Thanks for getting back to me

I followed the instructions here http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/rain-light-sensor-retrofit-and-installation-vw-diy/

Which included the connection to the later CECM.  I have also bought a light swich with the auto position and my loom has the blue wire and all 10 wires are in the plug.  I have not tried other CECMs because of the cost.  I am away in France this week so will down load the codes when home, I recognise the first 2 codes with the wisher sub menu but there were only the two.  From your advice looks like I need the part number for a FL octavia VRS

Originally I only wanted the auto dim mirror, but having cracked the screen getting the old mirror off and wiring everything in it would be nice to get the auto wipers and lights to work

I live in Lincoln where there seems to be plenty of Skodas, also working during the week in Bristol where I have not seen as many

Thanks Simon

Post your autoscan when you're back in the country and don't buy a CECM until we know you need one.

I think most 1K0 937 087 units should be OK depending on your car year but I'd probably aim for either a 1K0 937 087 Q or 1K0 937 087 R. Anything that wasn't from a FL VRS will need extra work to correct the lighting configuration, it's a ten minute job for anyone with the right tools and knows what there are doing.

For example, both the FL VRS and FL elegance have DRL's, however the lighting configuration is different because on the elegance the sidelights and DRLs are both halogen bulbs (W5W and P21W) where as on the VRS these wires connect to the LED DRL module which needs different signals to activate the sidelight or DRL. There are also differences in the bulb checking logic which would probably cause bulb out warnings if you fitted a CECM from a non VRS Octavia. Both cars will have the same part number listed and the configuration is only set when the CECM is fitted to a car.

Some cars can be correctly configured using byte 18 but the Octavia is unfortunately not one of these.

Just had a quick google and found autoscans with the following CECM:

MY10 - 1K0 937 087 D

MY11 - 1K0 937 087 J

MY12 - 1K0 937 087 Q

That CECM should be absolutely fine, it's already a highline and compatible with a RLS.

The following are octavia's with that CECM and a RLS.

Can you tell us what part number the RLS has? I'd also suggest you double check all your wiring and let us know exactly what you've connected to where.

RLS is 1K0 955 558 M wiring from RLS pin 1 is switched 5 amp fuse, pin is to ground, pin 3 is to white plug on module violet/white pin 33 I am fairly sure I have spliced into this wire although not easy to see

Will the module add a RLS sub menu if RLS and wiring is serviceable?

That's a very old part, last produced in 2006 from what I can tell. I'm not sure if there are any functional changes between the M and AH rev as the latter is a direct successor to the former, there are certainly physical differences. More interestingly, I can't see any autoscans with a 087 CECM and a M rev RLS.

Assuming the unit works and is correctly powered, I would expect it to show up before it's coded. I'll have a play with mine later and see what happens if I code it out.

Your wiring plan certainly looks sane, that should be the correct pin for the LIN bus and as you said it only needs switched power and ground other than that. Have you checked you're getting power to the unit with a multimeter and that the three pins are the right way round?

I could look to fit a later RLS from ebay with a number from the scans you posted, still in France where the VRS has been just brilliant, will look to cont check the wiring when home, it is encouraging that my module should be ok

My RLS disappeared from the subsytems when I unticked the appropriate bit in byte 17. Guess the last check I should do it to unplug the RLS and see if the coding goes away, once I have my MOT sorted tomorrow I'll try and do it for you.

There are some pretty cheap AH rev on ebay from China that might be up to the job.

If it helps, I brought eBay item number 151423057945 from China when I retrofitted the RLS to my VRS and it works well.  The silicone pad was in pristine condition too and once fitted looks like a factory fit!  For £18.99 it is well worth it.

Hi Simon,

I'll be honest and say I can't remember! I do know that I followed the VCDS instructions on theses topic:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/260601-activating-auto-coming-home-leaving-home-lights-a-walkthrough/

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/170275-rain-light-sensor-and-auto-dim-rear-view-mirror-intall-guide/

Recently I tried to change some of the settings (lights coming on over a certain speed and windscreen tint level), and even though VCDS says the new code has been accepted, when I scanned again it was missing.  In the end, I had to have the engine running and then these changes were accepted.

As already said, I would check the wiring again to make sure everything is ok.  I remember that there was not a lot of space to solder the new connection into the CECM!

  • 2 months later...

Hi

I have now received the RLS from China which was recommended on  this site but although the code change is accepted by VCDS it still wont stick.  I have now an OEM plug and repair leads but still the same.  I am connecting the repair leads directly so there is no risk of a wiring issue.  I have now dismantled the plug to the CCM and noted that wire 33 is not white and purple but 35 is.  So have tried that as well.

Can some body please confirm that when connecting to the plug for the module the idea is to splice into it so it receives its original feed and also the RLS feed?

Any other thoughts are welcome

Simon

I've attached a wiring diagram and it should definitely should be pin 33 of the white (middle) connector. It also suggests that the cable should be purple not white.

I also just looked at the full CECM pinout and couldn't see any of the three connectors with both 33 and 35 used so that's also worrying. Can you grab some pictures of what you're dealing with as something if off here.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me will check plug tomorrow, Ref my other question do I splice into the existing wire and allow the CCM to receive both original input and RLS or just connect the RLS to CCM ?

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi

I have fitted the new RLS from China and using VCDS ticked RLS, installed the code which was then accepted.  I went back and looked at the BIT for RLS installed and it was no longer ticked  There was no additional box in the earlier drop down menu for the RLS.  Out of frustration I put the window wiper stalk in the intermittent position and only got one sweep I then sprayed water on the screen and it works as advertised.  It has been working now for the last 2-weeks.

The next stage is to get the auto lights to work, I have dismantled the plug on the light switch and all 10 wires are there including No 10.  I have bought a switch with auto and it has all 10 connectors.  However, when moved to auto, the headlights come on.  I have ticked the ALS and other likely BITS and the code was accepted but no change.  I checked to see if the light sensor was receiving a signal with the aim of possibly changing the sensitivity but it showed zero and no light sensor fitted.

I realise I am now probably on the wrong thread but as the RLS is not sticking to the code but is actually working I have written here, if it should be elsewhere please let me know

Thanks

Simon
