Age old question of PD Vs CR - looking to buy.

Featured Replies

Hey folks new to the forum as im looking to buy me a MK2 Octavia Vrs Tdi but looking round I see some have the PD unit and others the CR so im going to ask the question that has probably been asked many many times.......

Which is better ?

The car wont get used for commuting and will probably only move at weekends and do short journeys ( less than 100miles )

I Intend to sort out the DPF   and get the software removed.

Are high mileage vehicles reliable obviously with a history that I can look back through and what stuff should I be looking for ? Are there any "common faults" to watch for ?

Cheers guys

General consensus i believe is history is much better than mileage with VW engines

PD units are tried and tested and are pretty much bullet proof.

I'm not sure the vRS's powerplant in PD170 guise, could be labeled as "bullet proof".

PD = punchy performance with more shove into the back of the seat

CR = smoother more progressive performance

I've had both and preferred the CR. I believe the DPF's are less prone to issues on the CR as well.
