power steering light

Featured Replies

I have the power steering light on the dashboard coming on intermittently on my fabia, doesnt seem to effect steering mostly (about once in every 100 times it comes on there has been a slight loss in assistance, but usually its ok), no codes showing when checked. Intermittently comes on anyway, any ideas?

Battery on the way out is a possibility.

Replaced battery last year?

Get the battery tested ASAP, is it the correct Amperage for the car.

Can be. The PAS pump is electric and only runs (or should only run) when the steering is turned. If the sensor is faulty, the pump can run on/off constantly even if the steering isn't moved.

It takes a lot of amps to run the pump, hence the flicker.

Note: On a healthy system, there will/could be a dip in the lights when the pump runs, but (in theory) only once, and only when the steering is moved.

Check the battery earth and other main earth connections are in good condition.

The pump runs continuously, it's just its speed that varies. When 'idling' (the PAS pump, not the engine) the current is very low; just 3 or 4 Amps.
