Fabia vRS smoke...how much is too much

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I was never too worried as the power is there and engine is responsive and doesn't really drink oil (too much), economy 40mpg town/55mpg M'way

But I can't even put my window down at the lights,...could the remap cause overfuelling or valve seals are gone? (or turbo seals, or lots of other things)  The smoke is blue ish..so oil is present :(

get it checked or just live with it?

I'm no expert but that puff on startup is normal, but all the puffs after seem to to start out black but end up with a blue tinge to it. Based on that alone I would get it checked out.

I'm not 100% sure buts a lot of smoke on start up. It could be a valve seal or maybe even a injector seal. I'm no expert though.

Blue(ish) makes me think oil rather than fuel.

And that makes me think valve stem seals, rings or turbo seals.

So dry and wet compression tests looking for no rise in pressure on the wet test to rule out rings, and an informed mechanic to sort out between the other two.

Mileage? Original Turbo?

Could be the weak link if its the standard Turbo and now being worked hard.

Yeah high mileage on original turbo, but at 130K it could be anything really...

No strange noises though and good performance.  Sometimes a bit of judder in low rpm range 1300-1600rpm  (before turbo kicks in...when just bimbling along in traffic)

Have you tried using v-power diesel? Mine used to smoke a bit when I put my foot down until I started using v-power

You said it doesnt drink oil but roughly how much does it use.

very strange... been driving all day today and it wasn't smoking. Even on the start-up it was minimal. Then gave it a good workout when it warmed up, few runs up to red line and and still no smoke. Either used all oil up LOL or it is a mistery. When I checked the dip stick yesterday afternoon it was still spot on

If you want to check the turbo you could take the exhaust of it and stick your finger in it and feel for oil residue. It only 3x13mm nuts.
