RWYB - Santa Pod - Sat. 3rd October

Featured Replies

For my addiction to drag racing, I will finally be taking the VRS to the 'pod' now I know some people only went a few months ago but i had to miss out so offering a meet if you like at Santa Pod for a Run What Ya Brung day.  Always wanted to do one and this is my chance before drag racing season shuts for crappy weather.  It will be from early doors till possibly closing. Details are below.

Date: Saturday 3rd October

Convoys to The Pod:

More than welcome to meet other members on the way.  Please set these up in another thread.

Maybe on site photographers however you have to pay for the photos (i think) would be good if we could have someone taking for us I'll even provide the camera if needed.

Depending on weather... On the day I might pop up and take some photo's and maybe have a play.

But last time we went we had to wait 3 hours so they could dry the track as they don't let you race when it's wet or even slightly damp for that matter - or didn't for us.

Which resulted in us only getting about 6 runs in for the whole day until close.

I will be going to this but again only if weather is good. If weather is bad unfortunately the pod is always a write off! Been racing for yrs up there now n went to gti spring earlier in the yr to set some standard timed so ill be looking to improve on that this time out. Hopefully weather will be ideal! Are you running tuned Nathan?

Quite true all depends on weather i do appreciate it's a silly time of the year to go especially as so many of us (including myself) live so far away .

Edit: running standard MKII Fabia VRS.  Then might get it stage 1 map after Xmas.

Well there's a couple of dates as gti festival is day after. Always good to run standard times before tuning to give you a yard stick to measure by. I'll be doing festival if good but if weather is looking better on the sat but not good Sunday I'll run then instead.

If you can catch fair weather it can be the best time, cooler air is better for power and keeping engine temps down on the turbo's. Only issue is traction then. Dsg launch control helps lol ;)

how the hell do you get DSG launch control :o

Don't you just floor it with brake held down and it holds 4000rpm or something?

Yh basically sport mode, traction off, hard brake n build up to 30 revs. You'll feel the car hold itself n then off brake n hard accelerate. If u can get it nailed it's epic ha! Was always biggest issue with my mk1 vrs Octy that traction killed me. I cud cross the line 4-5 mph higher than a s3 but they wud still nail a flat 15 or less n best I used to get was 15.2 due to time lost at the start

Naths,  with a Fabia vRS Twincharger.

Try some practices with.

Good front tyres, 215/40 R 17 & sticky is good.

Traction Control off.

'Do not use 'S'.

Put the Shifter across to Manual '1'.

Hold on the hand brake, not the foot brake, and do not build up revs with a Twincharger.

When the lights change, hand brake off and floor it.

**Do not change gear,**

in Manual '1st',  it will shift automatically,to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and that should have you up the quarter mile at near to 100 mph terminal.

(If you were doing this over a longer distance, shift to 'D' before the red line in 4th, to go to 5th.)

Try that compared to just using 'D', Hand Brake, TC off etc.

Try it in 'S', Hand Brake, TC off etc.    See what works for you and is quickest.

Best have the weights off the rear crash bar,

that just makes the front light and is bad for traction.

Briskoda member,

CAVE with TMC Tuning Box, Weights off etc.

(& then a standard CTHE Estate.)
