'VW to drop its 10 speed DSG Transmission'.

Featured Replies

Smart thinking there really,

they need to get all 6 & 7 speed ones they have already sold working properly,

and if any customer / owners have issues, listen to what these are and fix them properly,

and extend the Warranties in the UK/ EU like in other World Regions.

(will this effect the launch of the Mk7 Golf 400R ? if there was to be a 400 / 420R !)

It probably doesn't even have 10 gears...

Oh, it'll have 10 gears. Just that in the real world it'll only use 6 of them.

10 speed..

Might as well fit a CVT

The VAG CVT is not reliable either, I've got an Audi outside with the CVT box and its broken with a common failure (google search Audi CVT problems). Only fix is a new transmission or a £1K refurb of the existing one. VAG have also withdrawn the CVT box due to reliability issues.

Decades of vehicle building experience and now the Volkswagen Group can maybe concentrate on building reliable and value for money and get their current technology right rather than always Designing New every time they get Quality Control of Manufacturing and Components wrong.

Too concerned on growth and expansion at the cost of the paying customers has been their problem,

and of course greed and arrogance and not being prepared to accept they are not as good at building things as they are at spin.

I've had 3 cars with CVTs - Mitsubishi Outlander, Subaru Outback and current Honda Odyssey.  All have been woeful.  The engine makes so much noise, the car makes such negligible forward progress.

That's basically the idea, torque spread that makes for greater efficiency.

Which Outback? I have one in my Forester XT and its wonderful. I also got invited to the UK Levorg launch event last weekend and thought that was great with it too. Definitely not noisy and so wonderfully smooth. However, I think they do need SI-Drive to drive well. I have driven an older XV without it and it is quite revvy and noisy when you don't want it to be. The selectable modes do transform it for daily use.

Gen 5? Circa 2012 I don't recall it having SI drive. Of the 3 vehicles it was the best of the bunch but a good slushbox would beat it anytime
