Tyre dressing

Featured Replies

What's your favourite for shiney tyres?

Mmm. They've come up a treat:rolleyes:

Must say it's a part of car cleaning that doesn't really interest me. The results disappear too quickly for me. Don't really think it's that necessary and doesn't really add to the overall cleanliness of the car? And I find that whenever I treat the tyres, some of it runs onto the alloy on the first trip :thumbdwn: I just tend to clean round them to get any visible marks off, when I'm cleaning the alloys with MC2.

Have used the Meguiars Tyre Gloss and that looked quite good, but if I was doing it regularly, I think I'd get something with a foam applicator or something, to make application easier, and to get a more even spread.

I find the salty roads currently make the tyres look very shiny. The rest of the car appears to be covered in the cr*d though, not great.

I'm not the best car-cleaner anyway, pretty much anyone on here would put me to shame in that regard, but I pretty much try to wash it and dry off the water before it leaves marks when I can. I should be waxing it, but frankly, I can't be bothered

May try to go to one of the meets one day and see if someone is interested in earning some cash :D - I'd trust you guys more than many valeters, especially having seen how superb most of the cars look

Swissol Pneau, Pricey but it works rather well, they look clean but not "super shiney"

Tyre Foam, easy to apply, lasts quite a while, good finish - and cheap

Meguiars Endurance Gel.

Best stuff I've used so far (and I've tried lots!).

:)

Meguiars Endurance Gel.

I trust this stuff is only recomended on tyres????;):D

PMSL!

I'll have to try it elsewhere... I'll report back soon hehehe

I too use Pneu - great stuff. The look lasts ages too. Its not glossy shiny, just a nice clean, rich black!

I too can't be arsed to clean my car at the moment, will do in the New Year when all the body work is sorted. ;)

Turtle Wax tyre dressing - comes in green bottles at halfrauds.

Always get comments of "what tyre dressing do you use?" at shows. Seems better than anything I've ever tried before.

same, great stuff that, and water beads on it iv noticed, also use it carefully for my black trim by applying with a cloth, works a treat

Must try the peanut butter trick sometime

  • 1 month later...

I can recommend both TurtleWax's Extreme Tyre Gel (sold in green bottle in Halfords)...great for summer use & best applied with a bit of sponge....and also Carplans TyreSlik spray aerosol is a good winter tyre dressing..lasts ages especially after a couple of applications over the course of a month.

I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to car cleaning & ive used so many cleaning products over the last few years that id like to think i can pass on my experiences and recommendations to others:-)

Yep - as per my 27/11/05 comments, the green bottled turtle wax stuff is just the best there is (IMO) :D

Sure it won't look showroom condition after 50 miles or so, but the instant effect is astonishing and is excellent for shows.

There is ONLY one and it is Meguiars Tyre Endurance Gel.

There products are one of the best and at a reasonable price.

As a bonus it smells like blackcurrants, NOT all that chemical rubbish.

Like all their products Meguiars I think is THE one to go for.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, forget tyre foam (tried it and binned it), don't bother with Turtle wax, back to black or other crud.

Just trust Meguiars.

My fave used to be Wonder Tyre dressing but they stopped making it!

I used Zymol tyre dressing for some time now but it's expensive so I have switched back to Meguires endurance gel. A bit messy to apply but I now use a freezer bag as a glove to apply using a sponge.

I use armour-all

Also use it on the speed trip dave to keep the engine looking black and shiny, and nope, it does not burn off

Fluff'

By the sounds of it, it's the application that's letting me down at present. I think I have the Endurance stuff from Megs, it's certainly one of their products and I think they only do one tyre product

TBH, I only bother with tyre dressing rarely and even then it's in summer. At this time of year, the sooner I can get finished with car cleaning the better :) It's usually dark by that time anyway

Will try the 'glove and sponge' method next time though Chowy! ;)
