Temperature gauge flashing ?

Featured Replies

Mrs just sent me this pic in a panic after starting the car this morning and it was flashing and beeping at her, guessing it's coolant temp? Being not very warm this morning we know it's cool does this indicate something else wrong, am at work so handbook is at home

Get her to check the coolant level first.

There was a common problem on the Fabia that the sensor would play up, especially when the temperatures dropped. The sensor is built into the expansion bottle.

Replacing the expansion bottle is an easy job, and a genuine one is around £15 from a dealer.

Mine does this, I have got plenty of coolant in the header tank and it still does it, people on here have changed the header tank bottle because of this, the contacts can get dirty but it's pita every morning. I just turn car off then restart it.

New header tank (at least for Furbie and Octy 1) is about £15.

Thanks guys will have a look this afternoon, think it needs topping up but got no pink/ red coolant G12 stuff can you add any other non G12 stuff to it that's red? Don't want to add just water and it looks a bit thin/ pale not strong atm

If you're not sure what the other coolant is, I wouldn't bother. You can add water as a top up, but definitely don't mix the blue stuff as it's not compatible.

It should actually be purple, as it's now G13

With the winter coming, I'd change to decent mix of proper stuff, as it's not expensive.

2:3 coolant to water for down to -24 protection :)

Winter before last I went out to the car on a number of occasions and had a similar warning light. It was cold, well into the minus and I was convinced that when the car was last serviced they had forgotten antifreeze!

I'd idle the car for a while and eventually the temperature gauge would start increasing and the warning light would go out.

Took the car in and I was informed that the sensor was faulty (and there was plenty of antifreeze in my system). All replaced under warranty - but above prices don't seem too bad.

Had a look yesterday and the level was just under minimum so went to my local motor factors and got some of their red coolant was actually pink when I was pouring it in, the 2 prongs look clean so left them alone, will wait for another cold morning and see what happens if comes on again then will have to go down the header tank route, thanks
