steering strength different

Featured Replies

Hello, Everyone,

Just after we decided to keep our Fabia "for ever" until it's down, it stats to give trouble. Last weekend, when we are on highway, I suddenly realize that the car cannot keep running straight anymore. I have to keep steering little bit to the left otherwise the car will automatically run to the right side even on very flat road. At the same time, i found out that I have to use more force to steer left than to the right. What do  you guys think that can be wrong. What should i do to fix it? Thanks a lot.

type pressure was also checked, but nothing change

Wheel alignment or failed bush in one of the suspension components I would guess, especially given its more difficult to turn one way than the other.

If a bush has failed, the alignment may appear to be ok on the rig however when under load the stresses on the bush will throw the alignment way out.

Thank you for your advice. I think it might fail the mot this year due to the broken bush. I searched the forum, seems the bush problem is a quite for mk1.  Even aftermarket bushes have better design than the original.

found some suppliers on taobao.com selling the tool for removal of the vw bushes for polo 9n. does it work also for fabia mk1?

Removal is probably best achieved with something like this. Installation of the replacement is where some sort of special tool is useful, even if that is just two metal discs of sufficient diameter with a hole in the middle of each. Arrangement on 9n Polo is the same though, yes.

Might also be a broken road spring. Common enough.

i have done wheel alignment at one of the kwik fit garage. the car can now run in a straight line, however the force to steer still differs. I still need to use more force to turn left than to the right.  Is it a sign of worn out wishbone bushes?

What sort of wheel alignment, if they just did the front then it could still be wrong.

Whilst the rear is not adjustable, there is no point fixing fixing the front alignment only if the rear wheels are out due to worn components. A typical 2 wheel rig simply aligns the front end using the rear wheels for reference, but if they are out anyway the front end could still be out as a result.

Assuming KF did a basic alignment, you should have the car put on a full 4 wheel alignment rig, at least that should confirm if all four wheels are pointing in the correct direction. You usually get a printout from the alignment computer with the before and after figures as well which you can post here.

i asked them to provide me the result, but they said they don't have. during the process, i do see them putting refactors on  each of the four wheels, does it mean it's a four wheel alignment then? but still not having the results sounds too weird.

Refractors does sound like a proper 4 wheel alignment, shame you don't have the before and after figures though.
