TBH I didn't think the friction plate can go in the wrong way?

As the deeper side with the springs will touch on the flywheel?

  • I must admit, I've had thoughts about making mine a track only car in the past. The problem I see is that as a track only car, there really are far better ones out there to buy out of the box. You co

Flywheels will always have hot spots tho but you say the friction plate "might have" been fitted wrong way around?. It either was or wasn't and id hope that was spotted and pictured when it was stripped down tbh. From the look of it possibly the pressure plate is not flat, whats it look like with a straight edge across the friction face?

The two garages involved have different opinions aboht which way the plate should be fitted- the one in MK tried it both the way it was fitted and the 'correct way' and when the freshly built box was put back in it still wasnt right apparently. Now the Helix setup is in its perfect. I will get better pics of the old setup today before i post back to the supplier. Either way its not right so either needs refunding or replacing.

You may have hit the nail on the head there Kev........

Think the drive plate touches the flywheel bolts when its wrong way around. I cant see any witness marks to suggest that has happened tbf.

Possibly just a badly machined unit with a warped pressure plate ? Pain in the arse either way tho

So, the flywheel/clutch saga is going to take a while to resolve - just posted the kit back to the vendor. On another bad note, since getting the car back it feels like it has a miss-fire feel to it under light cruising and at idle when cold its does not sound so clever - a big 'chuggy' if that makes sense. This definitely was not there before the car went in for the box rebuild and Helix kit put in.

Initial thoughts are that the map does'nt like the new, even lighter flywheel - however i am more concerned about it now so need to do some investigation - any suggestions? no faults shown on VCDS.

Mine with the Sachs SMF felt like that, hence why I went to a DMF when I replaced mine.

The normal day to day driving is way better with a DMF :)

Unless your driving a drag strip car I can't see why people fit SMF's...

You can get upgrade DMF and uprated clutches for them so most people just don't need a smf.

It really slight but i am quite anal about cars as i work with them for a living also. Its actually barely noticeable this morning. If i had a dmf it would **** itself after 12 months, especially when i am on bigger nozzles and doing track days.

Ps it was extremely smooth on my old smf

My DMF is doing fine after circa 7000 miles of 2260 power with nozzles, which also includes a castle combe action day and a open pit track day at oulton park ;)

Mine is one of xmans upgraded DMF'S and clutches :)

I have a sachs uprated DMF,that's what Ali suspects as he's never seen the sachs part number before. My cars done 4 trackdays now, and gets driven like a hooligan quite often, plus it's the torque spikey pd150 hybrid.

It's over 18 months old and unit 18 have told me it's still as good as new

I guess you've already answerd but i take it the flywheel looked like a quality product?

What brand was it?

Whats the pedal feel like to standard?

Im 90% sure its what im going to go with when i replace mine, i remember him advertising them around a year ago and not getting much feedback after that.

The DMF is off a CR engine, machined to fit the PD,clutch is a 2.5 Transporter LUK one with a uprated Kevlar disc.

Pedal is really light, and feels just like a standard one bite wise etc.

I'm running 2.5bar of boost and a LSD,and touch wood it's coping well :)

Intersting, i didnt know that they came from a CR engine.

They seemed good value for money anyway, i dont plan on ever running over 220bhp because i dont plan on fitting a GTB, only a hybrid. I've always like the GT1752 i fitted last time so will get one of them again when its turbo time, so hearing that has gave me some confidence in them. Im suprised they arnt more popular because even price wise, seemed very good value for money :)

Yeah,I think the people just listen to traders etc that say 'you need a SMF after xxx bhp' etc.

I hated the noise from mine, really horrible at idle and at low speeds through built up areas etc :(

That is true, a lot of sheep follow the heard but i did ask a few people at work also. I actually like my mad tractor noise! It sounds like an industrial super tank! Get some really funny looks chuggung around town in it!

After having 5 punctures in 2015, the theme could continue this year with today having the first! The usual side wall hole so new tyre ordered! Must have picked something up on the industrial estate where Demon Tweeks is - its close to my mums so popped over and grabbed a Sparco helmet for track days - its decent for £49.

Next, the bumper has not fitted well at all since i did the intercooler, so took it off today and cut more away on the inside with the grinder, and also fitted a Cupra splitter - I can see why so many have them now it cleans up the front end. So bumper done and fitting much better.

Castle Combe with Brisky on 2nd April, and i've also booked a open pit day at Bedford Autodrome with some guys from work for 16th April. Considering booking the 'ring again for May also!

Off to see my mapper tomorrow to see if all is well now that i have done 3500 miles on the turbo :)

Todays job is to fit this lot - hopefully this will reduce the large amount of brake fade i got at Combe last weekend. Went for Mintex M1144's. Quick oil change also after doing 5k since the turbo conversion. Also a cool pic i found online thanks to Hyphons.

Nice cloud of soot chasing you in that pic! :)

How dirty was the back end of car after 2 sessions on combe?

I fitted EBC yellow stuff and used ATE super blue in mine with the 312mm front brakes and still managed to overheat them on combe.

But with the Tarox 6 -pots and 323mm discs the difference was massive,no fade or wobble at all :)

The tailgate was awful! Had to powerwash it 3 times to sort it! Need to wax it up i think. Im hoping the brakes are much better at bedford next sat- could end up getting some big k sport calipers off a mate but they wouldnt fit under my blue wheels so may be next year until i look at brake upgrades.

So, had a good day at bedford autodrome yesterday, then this happened in the afternoon..................................had to drive 155 miles home to manchester with no boost..................wheel not siezed and no excessive play...........

20160417_092824.jpg

Oh my!! What air filter are you running. That's got to be impact damage surely.

My old KKK and pd150 turbo looked similar but that was from over boosting and I had huge play in the shaft too.

Hopefully that's the only damage and a new compressor wheel is all you'll need.

Oh no :(

My 1756 looked a bit like that, but not as bad.see what xman says,as you weren't running high boost and looking in your pics you are running a S2000 cone which gives OE filtration so it shouldn't be a filter issue.

hope you can get it sorted easily

Edit: just saw coskev beat me to the s2000 comment
