Nice tyres :)

Looking forward to pics of exhaust.

Who's doing it?

Be intresting to see if they can get it sat correctly over the rear beam so that it doesn't knock or touch anything once the car is loaded ;)

2.5 inch is a pretty tight fit over the beam.

Going to be 2.75 from turbo back? B)

I've got a full 3" on my polo and having problems trying to not get it knock unloaded lol, it doesn't touch when loaded for some reason

  • I must admit, I've had thoughts about making mine a track only car in the past. The problem I see is that as a track only car, there really are far better ones out there to buy out of the box. You co

Think my back box is about 4 inch diameter.

Still quiet enough normal driving :)

Mines similar sized i think. Here are the pics and some of the crazy wheels ive just created! Great work by City Powder Coating in brum and MEGA cheap at £20 per wheel.

Yeah city powdercoaters are great value, finish is sometimes not the best but good enough for £20 a wheel :)

Exhaust looks spot on quality

£20 a wheel? Bloody hell. Id have mine done blue for that!!

Wheels look good. Does that that include stripping and prepping the wheel. My local place is £320 to do powder coating.

For that price they will dip, sand blast and powder coat - if they need chunks repairing ect its slightly more. I dropped the wheels off with no tyres also for that price, but they only charged me £20 to fit the new tyres when i collected the wheels. they appear to work on low margin high turnover - there were about 50 sets of wheels waiting to be picked up yesterday!

I've used City Powdercoaters for years, they even do new car wheels for us at work. Like you say for the money it's a no brainer.

The exhaust looks really good as well, very impressed with that

So, I gave in and decided to use a garage for the gearbox problems as I neither have time nor the ability to drop the box on my driveway. I dropped the car off at Unit18 and left it there and out came the box, off to the rebuilders where the guy said there was 25mm play in the shaft - hence my problems selecting 1st and reverse. It was quite bad apparently but I accepted that I needed to pay for a rebuild and then went more mental and bought a Quaife for it - they only charged £20 extra to fit it so was a no-brainer.

The guys at Unit18 are popping the box back in today an I will get the train down to MK from Manchester on Sunday to get the car back! I have really missed it having been using my mothers 1 Series 'Eco' all week!

Its been a stupidly expensive 2016 so far, so definitely no more on it now which kills my injectors plan - so sticking at 2bar for now and just going to enjoy it and do a few track days. House purchase is imminent this summer so need to pipe down on Skoda spending!

LOL I knew the diff would be done!!!! :D

You will love the LSD,esp when you get on track ;)

You need to do something like Combe action day,you can then follow other VRS's without LSD's and really see the difference it makes B)

You are just like Mystic Meg! :D I am booked on for Combe on 2nd April.................only at 2bar though so its not hugely fast atm (nigh on par with a Fiesta ST Mountune last week though - I actually had a bit left in mine too) but happy to run that whilst commuting in it.

I will definitely be going poly windows and fibrelgass bonnet and nitrous next year - will just pick up a crappy commuter for work.

Unit 18 are a great bunch of guys. Been using them for a number of years on things I can't do myself.

You'll love the diff, it's like having a magician in your gearbox doing unnatural things. Especially fun in the wet....when it catches you out lol

I bet you can't! I was supposed to be getting the car back tomorrow, however i had some news on the clutch/smf and now im a very unhappy bunny. Lets just say i won't get the car back for another few days yet and a different clutch and smf is having to go in...........i will explain all when i get car back and have full details.

Oh dear, this doesn't sound good. Will you be going for a different make of clutch and smf then?

Not good at all!

I feel for you mate, sounds like you've opend a right bag of worms!

Can't wait to see what you've got to say but I hope the clutch hasn't been the problem from the start and the gearbox was fine before (meaning this dodgy clutch has worn and damaged the gearbox)

So, I have just collected the car from Unit18 and got back to Leamington. Firstly, the work the guys there have done is amazing - going the extra mile is an understatement. Next, the Quaife is bloody amazing! even on acceleration the mechanical grip is unbelievable! feels like a different car!

So, the gearbox rebuild was a success and feels lovely through all gears again just like new! However, the old Darkside flywheel and Sachs SRE clutch are out and here are the pictures - one look and my clutch drag is explained here, plus the fact it did'nt fit right! Its foobarred.............................

So, this will get posted back to Darkside at the weekend and will ring them next week to have a chat about what I expect them to do about it, and see what they have to say. Not blaming anyone here as even the best things in life can break.

A Helix SMF and organic clutch has replaced this and feels like a lighter pedal than the Sachs, but apart from that the chatter is nigh on the same and driveability same.

Can't wait for Combe now.........................

Thanks! Look at the heat spots on that flywheel its foobarred! and friction plate subsequently worn round the middle and unevenly - apparently the friction plate could have been fitted the wrong way. Anyway i am in discussion with the supplier now and agreed how to proceed with getting this resolved so may take a week or two. Im happy with that most important thing is my car is running great again.

Well that looks pretty broken lol. Glads it's all working properly, unit 18 are an awesome bunch of guys. The diff just makes the front end fill so tight doesn't it.

Did Ali show his track car by any chance? Its bloody awesome.

Flywheels will always have hot spots tho but you say the friction plate "might have" been fitted wrong way around?. It either was or wasn't and id hope that was spotted and pictured when it was stripped down tbh. From the look of it possibly the pressure plate is not flat, whats it look like with a straight edge across the friction face?
