woo hoo...   I looked at the RO80 many times yesterday before the penny finally dropped.

 

I seem to recall that Mazda licenced the engine from NSU before the latter got into financial difficulty and were absorbed by VW??

I think there was some early devvelopment collaboration between NSU and Mazda, but as I understand it Mazda designed their own motors (and more reliable than NSU's).
