What did you do to your Skoda today pt2

Featured Replies

Fitted sill trims and an Amundsen+ head unit to the Rapid (technically I did it this past weekend, but forgot to post it).

Ordered oil and filters, as the car is counting down to a service.

Also fitted my winter tyres a bit early, as the crappy Accelera Alphas we knackered (and feckin awful and noisy).  So rather than buy 4 new summer tyres then 2 new winters, I figured two winters now and the new summers in the spring.

Im really happy with the new interior (even wifey has commented on how the car looks so much more presentable) but have to cut/splice the airbag connections as the Vrs seats have a totally incompatible plug connection to my loom so this is the next job over the next few days.

Well this didn't happen, having spoken to a good friend who's an independent vag mechanic I was informed that the airbags wiring loom is part of the airbags construction and not too mess with this due to possible wrangling with my insurance company if the car was ever subject to a inspection re: a claim. so I had a flash of inspiration and decided to partially disassemble the Vrs seats and remove the Incompatible airbags complete with looms and replace them with the compatible airbags/loom from my old seats.

This took about 4 hrs in total but now I have no dash light and fully functioning airbags (in the event I need them), I'm happy again dispite the razor sharp clips and edges cutting my fingers to shreds, just have to safely dispose of the spare side airbags.

Not really true on the airbag wiring loom.

Seeing as Skoda themselves had an approved dealer fix for wiring issues on the connector, which was to hard wire the airbag wiring! The connector used to sometimes fail due to the seat being adjusted back and forth.

There's a difference between a manufacturers documented fix for a fault, and a diy fix to make something fit which isn't the correct part for the car though.

Changed the chip board and battery end of the car key for a nice new looking case.

Not really. The airbag system is the same. This is probably isn't a discussion for a general 'what have you done' thread, however.

All I'll say is the connectors can be swapped over, and done so safely. No errors. I had a VAG Master Tech undertake the work, in my particular case.

Yes really. A manufacturers documented fix will be designed to work with the parts in question and will be insurance approved simply because it's a manufacturers fix. A diy fix is something someone does to make stuff work, and may not necessarily follow the same rigorous investigative testing procedures. If your airbag fails to deploy (for example) in an accident and the insurers find out you've doohickeyed a fix to make the incorrect airbags fit, then you'll have no insurance. If it's a manufacturers fix then they'll have a hard job denying insurance, and even if they did you'd have recourse to the dealers for compensation.

Fine. We'll leave it there. As I say, this isn't the correct thread.

Provisionally agreed to a part-x on the condition that the other car is spot on when it gets brought down here.

Now to return mine to standard. :'(

What's the new car?

What's the new car?

62 reg Monte Carlo 1.2 TSI 105 horse with 16500 miles.

In red, the only colour for a Monte.

As before, continued from previous topic, with well over 7000 replies it had become a bit unmanageable.

Waited for an update from the mappers.....

Got some new rubber on the front of the fabia (Conti SportContact 2) and had tracking/wheel alignment done. Drives sooooo much better now. Pull to the left all but eliminated and feels a lot more planted in the bends :-)

Good man! (not biased in any way as the owner of a red Monte estate!)

I saw that in your profile when you comented. I saw a red one on-line. In fact, it's this one:

http://www.bristolstreet.co.uk/used-car/1123944/skoda-fabia-1-2-tsi-105-monte-carlo-5dr-petrol-hatchback/

And it didn't say where it was, but I know BSM took over MSB in Darlo which is only 15 or so miles away so I went, looked round and couldn't see it. I told someone I was after a red Monte I saw on-line and they said they'd look, I told him I hadn't stolen it and he said it wasn't there. He then asked if I wanted one of the other 4 or 5 Montes that were out there, but alas, none were red. So I made him (na, just kidding, he volunteered) go on their database to see if there were any red ones and he came back with that. Which turns out to be the one I was looking at anyway. Result.

So I've agreed to a sale on the condition that I test drive the actual car, look round it thoroughly and make sure I want it for sure, and if it has no spare wheel I get to swap mine over to the new car because I'm not having a tube of goo.

Also, on topic. I bought the new car a circle Brisky "b" sticker. Or maybe I bought a sticker to sit in my bedroom for ages, I don't know.

Got the aircon in the Octy regassed, hoovered out both cars then checked oil in both and topped up the screen wash.

How many cans of paint did you use? I think I used enough just doing my wheels!

No idea, just popped in from time to time buying a few cans each visit, lost track to be honest lol

Removed this little lot:

WP_20151012_06_48_13_Pro_zpsee4ug780.jpg

Plate surround, boot springs, Columbus and MDI loom.

That's at least 50 BHP removed and it's not even 7 yet.

I think all that's left now is to paint the last 2 wheels and get them changed over.

Just washed it ready for its 1 way trip, it is a lot easier to wash a car when you can actually see it.

Now I just have to get the wheels changed and it's done. But I'm waiting till a bit later before I start with the impact wrench :D

Removed the alloys, put the steelies on and sold it. Now, new car... Put the Columbus in, bought some mud flaps to fit at some point, bought a new seat cover and fitted it, put the briskoda plate surround on and the brisky sticker too.

If you need any coding done for the Columbus just let me know...
