Washed it in the gale force winds... just after the sleet had stopped

oh and then sold it, now car less for a week

Today I changed my oil and filter. And fuel filter.

And found out that I need a new intercooler :(

Then fitted my winter wheels.

Today I bought a tin of gold spray paint. Test spraying one of my VRS wheels tomorrow.

Test sprayed one of my VRS wheels today:

It's Ford Olympic gold according to the tin. It's a bit foggy in the bedroom now though.

I like the colour, think it would look better with a nice coat of lacquer to make it more glossy but I think if I strip the other 4 wheels down properly, primer them and spray them the same colour or maybe a brighter gold then they will look good. Now I just need to buy 2 tins of primer, 4 tins of lacquer and 4 of gold paint. Make it thick and it shall last ;)

Used up the last of the can of spray on the test wheel.

Then went over the tyre with a bit of AG tyre dressing.

Test fitting tomorrow.

I'll have to get some filler to smooth over the pits in a couple of the wheels to make them nice so shopping list now is Filler, very fine sand-paper, 2 tins of primer, 4 tins of lacquer and 4 of gold paint.

Nice job!

Nice job!

Thanks, That's without any lacquer on as I was only testing the colour to see if I like it which I think I do but I'll find out properly tomorrow. And I don't think the pictures do it justice, the center section is very smooth and feels nice.

Played around with some spray painted masking tape and a gold wheel. What do you think of just the flat face being painted gold and the rest in black?

I'm not sure. It was just an idea I had at midnight :D I could paint the wheels gold, then mask the faces and paint the rest over with black magic to match the Monte trim, then coat with lacquer.

Not sure, I'd probably go all gold.

Also love the overspray onto the tyre sidewall! :D

Best trick I've seen to stop overspray is a deck of playing cards pushed in between wheel and tyre, with the cards overlapping. Probably the process I'll use when I try a DIY refurb on my Eunos wheels

Washed the car, did sides and back, then roof, then wheels then bonnet, bumper and wing. Yes, they take last place now.

Then I test fitted the VRS wheel.

Verdict is I'm going for gold. All gold. I'll spray in the back of the wheel with Black Magic and then spray the front with gold so all the face and ring round the edge will be gold then it will blend into black as you go to the far inside of the wheel. Mostly to save on gold paint as I already have a tin of BM kicking around in the paint shop/bedroom.

In this photo I have just washed the car so I have gold break discs to match :D

Then I went out and bought these things:

But, as the eagle eyed among you will notice, the two golds aren't the same colour. One is Ford Olympic gold like the sprayed wheel and the other is Ford Tibeten gold.  :wall:  Some t**t had put 2 different paints in the same runner :finger:  so I'd came along and gone this is Olympic gold, I'll take 2    But oh well, it is still sealed they can have it back. Also got some filler, grey primer, wet and dry and tough clear coat (fed up of trying to spell lacer) So all I need to do now is get a couple of heels inside, strip them down (break fluid?) clean them, filler and sand, prime ect.

What an ingenious idea. I like that!

Those will look really good when they are finished and on your car. Haha, will you be changing your user name to Brimma 2?   :D  :D  :D

Na, I think I'll just be using them as winters as I prefer the car on 17s rather than 16s. But I still want them to look good :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just ordered a pair of pressed plates.

Probably fixed the intermittent near-side brake light and swapped the 'optional silver internally coated' W5W side light bulbs for the more usual clear ones. Much better.

Nothing special, topped up washer fluid, put 700ml of Castrol's finest in, topped up the fuel too and just taxed it for another year.

Sent SWMBO off to a local Škoda dealer to have the Yeti serviced.

When she returned I reset the service reminder as they couldn’t do it!  :wonder:

Then washed them both.

Sealed the the leaky rear door carriers with plumbers gold on my mk1 vrs runaround

Mine hasn't been reset since it's service in Jan  :D

Not this weekend but last weekend - treated it to four new Cross Climates...

This weekend I managed to avoid hitting it with the ladders as I got them out to put the Christmas lights up   ;-)

Washed it, then checked the oil and filled up the screen-wash, then checked tyre pressures, well, one of them. Never got round to checking the other 3, then took it to the garage and got a puncture mended. Cost me nothing to get it fixed though, Garage was really busy so he said come back at 4. I went back at 4 and he was still busy so i waited for an hour and a bit and he did it for nothing since I waited. Then when I got back for the second time my new impact wrench had arrived. :)

Fitted pressed ally number plates. Looks ace!

That's one of my jobs for the day after tomorrow. Well, the rear one any way, no point fitting the front one as it won't have the bumper for more than a day.

Got to wash it, take the front wheels off and wash round them real good so it's all nice for when it goes to the body-shop, take the front mud-flaps off then put the wheels back on replacing the lock-nuts with normal ones and just the general stuff to make his life a bit easier when he takes stuff apart.

Fitted rear number plate, drilled front plate but not sure if I'm happy with the holes being where they are. They are in the center 2 of the holes that come as standard in the bumper. I an thinking they should have been in the outer holes. Also the screws just keep turning and don't seam to bite, they hold the pate in more, it is curved but sticks out at the ends. However you can pull the plate out a bit as if there is give in the screw holes. I don't know. I'll have to see what the new bumper brings. But for now the old plate is back on using those holes and it sits a bit better. Maybe if I screw the plate on and use the tape provided to help the screws out a little then it will be good, but not until I get the car back.

Then I took the front right mud-flap off to make life easier for the body-shop (and to make sure the flap doesn't get destroyed or put back wrong)

I also took it to the dealers to ask about the lock nut key and aux port cover that I have been waiting for now for 2 months. He went out back, couldn't find it and now, apparently has told them to get it ordered. If it isn't there by he new year then they can get one off a car on the forecourt because this is getting annoying. And then the reason i was near the dealers, I bought an impact driver socket from Halfords.

You've reminded me why I never drill plates!

You've reminded me why I never drill plates!

I didn't like the idea of relying on the tape that was supplied, but it looks like I'm going to have to in the end. Anyway, it doesn't matter, the screws can hide the holes and help locate the plate and then it will be taped on and possibly some Evo-grip if it needs it. I will make sure it won't come off! The back one is perfect, I couldn't have hoped for a better result but the holes in the bumper make the front one a bit of a flop. I could try and bend the plate off the car then screw it on to see if that helps.
