Thinking About a Petrol DSG Rapid

Featured Replies

Have a Fabia 1.2 TSI 85PS at the minute.  Thinking about a DSG Rapid 1.4TSI 122PS.  Have read about the 1.4TSI engine in the Fabia VRS burning oil.  Presume it is the same engine in the Rapid minus the supercharger.  Does the engine in the Rapid suffer from the same oil burning problem?

Also am torn between a used SE and a used Elegance.  Other than the bigger wheels, what more would I get in the Elegance over the SE.

Finally, is there anything I should be aware of in terms of problems with the Rapid (both saloon and spaceback models).  Many thanks.

The same Base Engine in as far as a 1.4 TSI 1390 cc.

But the 1.4 TSI 1390 cc Turbo Engines with 105, 122, 140 ps have never had issues like the Twinchargers.

Even the 160ps / 170 ps Twinchasrgers had different issues from when the Euro 5 Twincharger 180 ps Minimum were introduced in 2009.

The 150 PS Twincharger in the Seat had no issues.

So do not compare the Turbo Engine with the Twincharger engine when looking at issues.

  Things to know.

The early (2012/13) SE came with a very stingy spec (no foglights is the giveaway).

Early cars have a notoriously dreadful ride ( the improved suspension and steering were introduced around November 13 when the Spaceback hit the UK Market)

Also a lot had a serious booming noise problem related to the hatch being badly adjusted (and/or the poor suspension and OEM tyre choices)

Not sure how much more kit the Elegance has but the Toledo SE (same car, different look) comes with climatronic, factory Nav, Bluetooth, DAB, cruise, park sensors, MFSW.

Given that used prices will all be around the same, I'd have a Rapid Elegance or Toledo SE with that 1.4DSG

@Bidey on here seems to get as good or better mpg from the 1.4 as most of us get from the 1.2.

My 2014 DSG Elegance has got Climatronic, Cruise, Bluetooth, Parking sensors, MFSW. Hasn't got Sat nav or DAB. But it does have the very important for me front Arm rest. Being DSG the armrest doesn't get in the way at all, just move it up when using the handbrake.

I think the SE comes with Cruise anyway.

I seem to be averaging about 43 to the gallon and do a 40 mile round trip to work and back with a mixture of dual carriageway and country lanes. When I went away for the week doing a lot of motorway driving it did 47 to the gallon over that week. I don't have the lightest of right feet so those figures can undoubtedly be bettered.

Just make sure the doors have had the mod done or otherwise they'll undoubtedly fill with water. Had mine done about 2 weeks after I bought it as after a heavy weekend of rain I could hear the water sloshing around in the near side door !

Oops! I forgot the water leaks issue.

Yeah - so the Toledo has more toys, but I prefer the Elegance interior myself.

The Elegance interior is a very relaxing place to be, we also have a Polo Gti in the family and the fact that the Rapid interior was very much in feel with the Polo swayed me towards the Rapid and away from the Toledo that I also looked at.

So far I'm very pleased with the Rapid :-) I haven't had to put any oil in it yet, wish I could say the same for the Polo !

We love the 1.4TSI DSG.13 Reg

Plenty room and boot space, great Zip and MPG ;<)

Yes, we have the booming noise albeit abated somewhat after hatch stops adjusted.

Ride is definitely not nice at low speed over "glass safety surfaces at roundabouts/corners. HOWEVER, Cruises very smooth and quiet at 70mph

No door water issues
