Fabia vRS Gearbox oil.

Featured Replies

I know this has been covered many times, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the genuine Skoda gearbox oil type/part number for the Mk1 vRS.

There are 3 types of oil that have been discussed :-

G060726A2 - £6 per litre (for 5 speed boxes?)

G052171A2 - £16 per litre (for 5 and 6 speed boxes?)

G052157A2 - £25 per litre (for 6 speed boxes?)

There are a posts that state that the expensive new 'high performance' oil G052157A2 is not good and gives very poor 1st to 2nd change when cold in the Fabia vRS.

Here and Here

I went to my local DM Keith dealer here in West Yorkshire to see what oil they say should be used.

They showed me the part number system screen as they searched for my car. It showed G060726A2 and G052157A2.

My car is a 2005 (54 plate) car with the HDS code gearbox.

They said that the car would have left the factory with the G060726A2 oil but that Skoda now recommends the much more expensive G052157A2. There are also posts that state that the new G052157A2 oil is OK when used in countries where the ambient temperature is higher than in the UK (so maybe OK during summer)

I bought the original and cheaper oil G060726A2 and will be getting it changed in the next couple of weeks and will report back if it performs OK.

Anybody else found similar confusion and have any experience on what oil has worked OK and what hasn't?

Changed my gear-box oil earlier this year, and also found Skoda wanted £90 for 3 litres of oil.

Fully Synthetic API:GL-5 75W 80 was recommende by OPIE Oils as quote ( their boss used it in his car) less notchy when cold than 75W 90.

Member below is totally correct and I concur what he has stated..

Mine had 75W90 put in before I bought it,gear change was notchy when cold.

Bit of research suggested 75W80 so bought some of that fully synth and gear change was transformed when cold.

Just type in 75W80 on Opie oils website and take your pick of which one you fancy :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, I properly am but don't you have to use a certain type of gear oil due the brass syncros in the 6 speed box?

Ali at unit 18 once told me I can't use the 5 speed stuff.

you can put whatever you want in, fill it with cooking oil or engine oil if you wanted.

i just go off what dealers tell me really, if its designed for a different engine or 5 speed gearbox then unless you have a 5 speed gearbox i wouldnt bother.

I chose to run 75/90 fully synthetic in mine due to spending time on track, reckoning the oil would fare better at the higher temperature and loadings track work will give it.

Yes for the first half a dozen gear changes or so it "can" be notchy between first and second but no more that that tbh.

The g60 is for the 5 speed boxes. I used it in my octy and had some left so used it in my fabia. Then went for the g52 which cost a bomb but wow did it quieten it down.

You need to remember matts car is a garage queen though :D

Only comes out about 6 times a year so not enough for the cold notchy gear changes to get annoying!!! ;)
