Air bubbles on factory fitted tinted windows

Featured Replies

This all sounds so easy but Skoda UK messed up the free servicing they were offering nationally last June when I bought the car, they then wrote to me to say they would not be dealing with the matter any further and to contact my dealer. I complained and sent numerous emails over several weeks but in the end, It was simply that the dealer felt sorry for me and paid for it themselves. Skoda UK washed their hands of the matter and are worse than a dodgy back street car dealer from the 1980s in my humble opinion.

Agreed - Skoda UK are a complete shower of ****. Waste of space the lot of them!

Do you mean this bright spot?

Hi yes that looks like the spot, I'm concerned to see any kind of air bubble in the tint and now worry that it will get worse, there is also one on the back window, this leads me to think they are tints rather than factory glass. I will get out tomorrow and check the codes on the glass.

The other way to simply see if it is an aftermarket tint and not factory tinted glass, is if you have a heated rear screen the heating elements will show up really clearly behind the tint as viewed from outside looking in.

Also you get the white/light line around the edge of the glass as per the image.

Ignore the car it is the tint your looking at ;)

On tinted glass the heating elements do not show out the same way, I found this on a Freelander being sold as having factory tints but it was aftermarket.

Thanks il have a look tomorrow, now I know it could be film I'd urge everyone to check theirs asap for imperfections, before warranties expire etc etc

Glasses' part numbers are in the form:

5JX 845 2YY Z

X is A for Rapid and J for Rapid Spaceback

YY denotes which window it is

Z is generally blank for clear glass, A or E for stage I tint and B for stage II tint.

PR codes also show if you have tinted windows. 4KA means clear glass, 4KC means tinted stage I, and 4KF means stage II tint for rear glasses.

OP- have you had chance to check ?

It's a strange one this.

I was convinced my Citgo had tints put on the glass (I mention this way back in the Citigo section) until those that post there more or less convinced me they aren't and it's proper "Sunset glass" ex factory. My Toledo however looks better, proper tinted glass at the rear. I could liken the tint on the Citigo glass similar to when you apply a screen protector to a mobile phone, before you actually fix it firmly, it just seems poorly applied, or the tint not applied properly if it was the real deal.

^^^ If it was the real deal, its not applied in any way and shouldn't look like a screen protector, the tint is the colour of the glass from manufacture.

This is all I have on the window, can't see anything relating to what you said?post-131274-0-40098200-1445194847_thumb.jpeg

Looking up the full DOT info (AS3) it says it is a less than 70% light transmission, tinted glass.

So the imperfection you have is in the glass and it is not an aftermarket film.

Thanks very much, if that's true it slightly puts my mind at rest because unless you tell me otherwise the bubbles/imperfections can't grow or get any worse? What I am still bothered about is that on close inspection there are several and also on the back window too. I'm still going to speak to the dealer about it. Not that they are going to offer to replace the glass, am I mental! It's a Skoda get on with it Nels.

I'm not professing to be clever, looked it up here.

DOT 618 is the manufacture in Poland.

AS3 = tint level

M618 = could not find but AS3 is defo the bit you needed.

If it is correct your main windscreen should be AS1 :)

Thanks, AS3 shows me that this is a factory tint. I can't understand why it's so poor quality, about 10 years ago I had a freelander tinted and after a month only noticed one imperfection which was fixed. On my Skoda Rapid I can find numerous, is this just another indicator of how cheaply Skoda can get away with building their budget versions cars. Can this be found on Octaves and Superbs? Can someone confirm if these imperfections can get worse or is what I have as bad as it gets?

Just do not accept imperfections.

No matter what any other Dealership employees might say, just ask that they get the Dealer Principal to have a look see,

and ask them if sub standard quality is acceptable to him or her.

Then ask them to put that in writing on headed note paper and sign it.

I like that goneoffSkion1, I am still dreading the process that then follows, which I am sure will involve Skoda Uk, but getting them to say it's acceptable and put it in writing is genius.
