Air bubbles on factory fitted tinted windows

Featured Replies

After several months of trouble free motoring in my rapid since the last load of problems, I've now noticed an air bubble or similar on the off side rear window and back window. All windows from the B pillar are factory fitted tinted glass and as far as I'm concerned should be covered under warranty. Before I contact my dealer has anyone any advice, I've come to hate the process of contacting Skoda because I know it's going to be stressful and again it highlights just how s#!+ Skodas are!

Actually in the glass itself?

Can you take some pictures, please?

This thread could be interesting as it makes you wonder if they forgot to factory order the tints and then had them retro fitted?

As above - air bubbles says they are NOT factory tinted (factory tints are normally chemically pre-applied directly to the glass - like tinted eye glasses). Air bubbles suggests a dealer-fit.

If yes, that mean your car has been modified... mean you should inform your insurance company...

If you bought / order it new from a dealer, you should sort it out...

Proper sunset glass is Tinted Glass, there should be no white lines around the edges, around the rear quarter lights . The best place to look is on the rear screen The rear screen has a black border and in places has little bubbly bits around the edge, round the high brake light.  If these look like white bubbles then yes you have tints not sunset glass.  It the glass was sunset you wouldn't have the white bubbles, it's because the can't get the film into the little holes in the black border.

Does that make sense ?

However if could just be a flaw in the glass if its a white air bubble.

Need to see a photo ideally

It's factory fitted I'm sure, it's a rapid sport so that's how they are made, I've tried taking pics using iPad and iPhone and all I get is a pic of me or the house accross the road, it's hard to see but it's at the top of the pic on the left about 1/3 accross. It's basically a small area which looks like an air bubble.post-131274-0-31711600-1445088465_thumb.jpegpost-131274-0-31711600-1445088465_thumb.jpeg

It's the large blob almost directly above the chimney on the left house, that's as good as I can get, my neighbours think I'm a weirdo now.

No way is that factory tinted glass - that's film that's been applied either at the dealer or at the UK landing site.

Factory glass does not use tinting film.

I give up with this car, I might do what storm chaser did and just get rid. I will contact the dealer on Monday, already dreading it!!!!

Factory Sun Set Glass is Tinted Glass, not a tinted film

If the air bubble is not large, it can be removed. Take it back to the dealer and demand to have it fixed. As others have said, it should not have been there in the first place.

If that's the case it can't be fixed??? Replacement glass, surely, if the glass itself is that coulour and not covered in film. Also don't understand how a Rapid sport could arrive at the dealer with standard windows. God I wish I could go back to June and never bought the bloody thing!

My back windows were very Black and nothing like in that photo. That's been an addition to the car. Sorry to read all this :(

Damn you Skoda!

I cant see it really in the photo--- unless someone can "ring" it.

Try taking photo from the inside.

However, Are you able to post the part number stamped/printed on the corner of the glass ?

Glasses' part numbers are in the form:

5JX 845 2YY Z

X is A for Rapid and J for Rapid Spaceback

YY denotes which window it is

Z is generally blank for clear glass, A or E for stage I tint and B for stage II tint.

PR codes also show if you have tinted windows. 4KA means clear glass, 4KC means tinted stage I, and 4KF means stage II tint for rear glasses.

If it is a tint film then it will more than likely have a lifetime warranty so get the dealer to sort it.

Also don't understand how a Rapid sport could arrive at the dealer with standard windows.

They most likely ran out of pre-tinted glass at the factory.

It's no excuse, but it happens. Last year there was a supply issue with reversing sensors and several Rapids were leaving the factory without them (despite being part of the spec). Dealers and landing agents were having to fit 4-sensor audible-only kits on arrival to get them up to correct spec before delivering to customers.

There should be no stress.

The Dealership should have the Warranty Manager Inspect it, or a Master Tech, and resolve the Issue,

get the report & claim into Skoda UK.

Or you call Skoda UK Customer Services, raise a case, get a Handler to contact you to arrange them resolving the issue,

and getting you your out of pocket expenses for travelling to a Dealers or where ever, since you were mis-sold the Vehicle,

either by the Importer Skoda UK, or the Official Dealership.

Except this is a Skoda and resolving it will involve dealing with Skoda UK - which is a joke!

Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk, please excuse any typos.

Only if you allow it to become.

If they Mis-sell or can not deal correctly, then you bill them for your time, or for getting a Loss Adjuster to have your vehicle examined and a Report done.

If Skoda and VW want to be Slow in what ever they do wrong, then customers need to be the ones to suffer.

You have your Consumer Rights, and Alasdair Stewart Brand Director Skoda UK needs to get a Grip of his Milton Keynes Employees.

& Skoda UK's Official Dealerships.

This all sounds so easy but Skoda UK messed up the free servicing they were offering nationally last June when I bought the car, they then wrote to me to say they would not be dealing with the matter any further and to contact my dealer. I complained and sent numerous emails over several weeks but in the end, It was simply that the dealer felt sorry for me and paid for it themselves. Skoda UK washed their hands of the matter and are worse than a dodgy back street car dealer from the 1980s in my humble opinion.
