DSG noises, Are they normal?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just picked up my new Yeti and all seems to be ok except the dsg box makes a noise when its changing gears at low speeds.

The noise is almost like a clanking sound not too loud but loud enough to be heard at low speeds (low rpm)

I can also hear it when selecting drive from P position,

Has anyone else had this or is this quite normal, i have to say not heard it on the demonstrator.

Hmm, I don't recall it on my old Scirocco. If you've just picked up the car I'd suggest giving it a good going over for any niggles then pop back to the garage with any questions or problems - if you don't think it's right ask to compare it with another model they have.

It could just be normal of course! You should make sure you have peace of mind though.

If I'm in an enclosed space with the widow open I can hear d being selected and it shift gear. Normal driving I can't. It's probably nothing to worry about but its probably best to get it checked out

Sounds a bit like old fashioned drive line slack......tolerances

Mine made these noises at low speed changes, when cold. Now it's run in, the noises have stopped. This means either they have stopped after things have meshed together after the initial running in period OR I have just got used to it!

I've never heard any sound from my DSG,  though admittedly I don't drive with the windows open and the car is not parked in a confined space.  Yours is brand new,  and you can legitimately ask for it to be looked at... don't accept the statement  "that's normal, sir",  or  "its a characteristic"... it isn't.

This noise can be heard with windows up so must be quite a clunk from outside. Its going back in on Tuesday to have the tow bar fitted so will ask them to look at it then, I also have brake judder which i think is odd on a brand new can, around town there is no judder there but get up to 60mph and start braking its terrible. at the minute that is all i can find wrong, Lets hope the DSG issue is nothing too serious.

That's enough isn't it on a brand new car, should have been checked before you got it.

DSG should be smooth and no clunks between changes.

That brake problem definitely isn't right.

In the mean time, just check that your wheel bolts are tight. (just in case)

The shuddering when braking from speed is odd.....'crash stops' with brakes left pinching the rot......oops disc can have an 'annealing' effect in one spot of the err ...discs .....but you would hope they didn't try that on your new toy.

One of the things that converted me to the DSG was it's silent operation so I would say "back to the dealer".

thanks for all the feedback guys, been out today and done 100 or so miles, Brakes are still juddery, The DSG is smooth its just the clunk you can hear, If i turn the music up i wouldn't know any different lol.

On a slightly different note does anyone here have SmartLink enabled on the Columbus and is it worth the money??

Still shouldn't clunk though.

Had the Towbar fitted today with the full 13 pin split charge etc, very pleased, At the same time they looked at the brakes and there was a rust spot on the disc where the pads had been sitting, once cleaned up the brakes are smooth as silk.

Now the DSG noise, They took it out for a drive and did hear the noise so i am not going mad haha, They have no idea what the problem is but the techie said there was a pipe near the gearbox which may have had something to do with it and he had moved it slightly, Anyway i was told to take the car away and see if it has cured the noise, So took it home and couldn't hear a thing.

So fingers crossed all is sorted but if anyone else is experiencing noises when changing gear check that nothing is too close to the gearbox as i guess the box does move about a bit.

Ahh!

On selecting gear, the instant torque reaction is causing it to 'ding' a pipe, it seems ........easily fixed, if so.

Had a few strange clunking noises from the back end when I first got my Yeti but they disappeared after a few months.

Certainly nothing from the DSG or anywhere else since. Runs smooth as anything normally. I can be a bit over sensitive

when I get anything new!
