Citigo & Up! 12/62 plate MOT results

Featured Replies

So, I discovered https://mot-history.net/ today, and decided to go through most current and "completed" Citigo & Up! listing on eBay and see whether there was anything I might need to get sorted before my MOT, and I though that perhaps someone else might think to do this and I could save them some time by posting my copy'n'pastes.

Jeez, BT12FWZ 100k miles?!

Yours for £3,289 in Keighley:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281783309899

Since the past few winters haven't been particularly harsh, and if it has actually been maintained properly (tyres in good nick, oil changed regularly, brake pads OK, little rust, heat shield clips OK etc) and it if it hasn't been misused, then this could perhaps be good value for a smidge under £3k if they sort out the ball joint? I know nothing about car value though, so I'm probably wrong :)

Thanks for putting the effort in to do this, gives me confidence that the Citigo will pass once I change the wiper motor and just adjust the headlights to even out :)

Good news for Citigos :)

Interesting. Miserable results on tyre wear! Are they all Continentals? I have on the past two cars managed in excess of 28,000 on front tyres, does not look as tho' I can expect the same on the Citigo.

I was curious about the one which mentioned the engine/underbody trays and found it again: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191707536120 - it doesn't seem like anything special so perhaps it was an intentional mistake by the tester.

The tyres are cheap, my rear Conti's have lasted a mere 23k before being down to 4mm in tread, my fronts are also at the same depth however they are Pirelli's as they have already been changed once and need to now be changed again!

The reason under trays and the like are sometimes put as an advisory is to boost the stations numbers of advisories. If they don't give out enough they may gwt audited by vosa.

Or so I was told by my reputable mechanic friend of 15 years

Although we never can, it would be interesting to know how diligent the owners have been in maintaining tyre pressures. I suspect they haven't been and hence high tyre wear.

My biggest concern is the incidence of perishing/cracking of the tyres. These should be tyres a max of 4 years old.

SWMBO's Citigo on a 62 plate went straight through the other day at a mere £30 for the MOT too :)

Nada, nothing but then it only has 7,400 miles.

My old citigo passed it with flying colours it would seem, GU62 OCA I do miss it!!! I think it said 20 odd thousand miles

Why owners doesn't check wiper blades and lights before MOT? Quite easy task anyway.

Had fun adding all my old cars in! Shame some of them are RIP, but could also tell my old XC90 had been completely abused - turned up at the MOT with a space saver fitted!

Impressed by the 100k little thing!!! I'm hoping in a couple more years the first ones might start getting very cheap and I'll have a track car project.

I really miss my citigo! Sure the Octavia is a better car.....but little Buck was a plucky little thing!

Looking at the list 3 common reasons for failure two of which should be checked before the MOT.

1) Tyres - no idea how you cannot know that yourself!

2) Wiper blades - as above easy to check and replace

3) Brakes - seem to have a few fails on brake related issues.

Although, if they're company cars it'd be down to the company to keep on top of this and not the driver? (Thinking G4S who use Citigo's)

Driver is responsible for checking vehicle is in roadworthy condition at all times, company vehicle or not so still should be flagged up by the driver

With MrUpDown on this one.....The driver is still responsible even if it's a company or fleet car.....shocking that people don't check these simple things!!

Though I see where you're going with it Hyphons, possibly they get serviced and MOT at the sametime. Maybe the MOT first in case it flags up extra work?

That list's not the work of a moment to put together smargh. Thanks for taking the time to do it. It's put my mind at rest as to the longevity of Citigos. Most of the fails and advisories are for consumables or easy-to-fix things like headlamp aim.

Wow..... brand new.... YK12 ERF Test Result Fail Odometer reading 6,696 miles

  • 3 months later...

All extremely interesting, but now just a tad academic, as the "motorists friend" (aka as Chancellor Osborne) has just recently upped the MOT requirement from 3 to 4 (YUP, FOUR) years. THAT'S going to affect resale values - for once, to the benefit of the owners-from-new.

What IS going to ADVERSELY affect new car sales, is that the same "MF" has SEVERLEY whopped up the RFL from (say for a Greentech Citigo) zippo, to £120 (in year one) & £140 in the subsequent years. ONLY applies to NEW cars bought from 2017: cars bought prior to then, stay under the current system. To a cynical mind, it just possibly means that people buying with a 3 year PCP, (from 2014>)may not take the (possibly most favoured route) of trading-in for a new car, but stay with their current vehicle. Over even just 5 years, a new Citigo Greentech is going to cost the owner some £680 extra - which will all go to the Government.

So much for being influenced by the Government into buying low-emission (Nil/low RFL) cars, then! The city-car manufacturers are not overly impressed.
