Extended warranty on new superb.

Featured Replies

What are peoples thoughts on extending the warranty? If you have did you purchase it when ordering the car or after?

i wanted 5 years worry free motoring. Purchased with car.

Purchased at time of order - I went for the 2yrs/100K miles. I've replaced both Superb IIs just before 100K - and not needed the warranty - but decided I would in this case, as I could.

I have it on my S2 and will get it on the next car as I have had a new Columbus unit, clutch pressure plate, new clutch and tv tuner in the fourth year. The Columbus unit and tv tuner did not cure the intermittent problem anyway but I feel I have got my monies worth.

Didn't bother with the Superb II and nothing ever went wrong, but probably will for the Superb III although not yet committed to it.

I spoke with the dealership yesterday about the extended warranty.

Their explanation to me was that the extended warranty needs to be taken out before the vehicle is taxed/registered.

If it's not, then at the end of the 3 year standard warranty there is the option to extend the warranty, but this extension has limitations/restrictions that do not apply if you took the initial extended warranty.

I didn't go into further detail. After a bit of thought I decided against it.

I was told that I had to pay for the extended warranty ar time of order but paid mine when I handed over the money as I collected the car. Before I gave them my money (50%, "vat free") I said I wanted the extended warranty which the salesman said it was too late. I said there is always someone you can speak/phone who can and dealer duly arranged it. Happy bunny.

I am someone who until this car has never paid any extra for an extended cover.

This person has always as has the other very good staff ensured that I have been well looked after which is why I would not want to save a relatively few pounds through cowow or whoever and buy through my dealer.

Unfortunately we are obviously not all in your financial position ... £7K+ off is quite a saving for some (21%)

If you buy the warranty when you order the car then the extended warranty is provided directly by Skoda, and carries the same terms as the original including full breakdown cover with roadside/home start, courtesy car etc.

if you buy during ownership, then you are buying a normal used car type warranty provided by a third party and sold to you buy the dealer along with its claim limits etc. Most likely the same warranty you would get buying a used car from them that is outside the main warranty. This warranty is sold by Skoda UK but is infact underwritten by a third party.

The three year UK warranty is slightly odd anyway, years 1&2 are provided by Skoda CZ and has unlimited mileage. Year 3 is provided by Skoda UK themselves and has IIRC a 60K mileage limit, so if you are already over 60K at the start of year three you have no more warranty.

Details of both sorts of extended warranty are below. Look at the bottom of the warranty tab for prices extending the factory warranty as opposed to the later purchased extended one.

A few Yeti owners have reported that the breakdown cover ceases after year 3 and does not carry over for the extended period.

Hi Gizmo68,

I actually even with the "no vat" got almost £6k of mine which was easily over the no vat off price, plus only had to put half down with the rest over two years % free. As always it is how far you and/or the dealer negotiate that gets the best deal and as I said above my trust in my dealer has been verified with some issues that Skoda uk were just hard work. This support of my dealer I am sure would not have been there to anywhere near the same extent had it been bought through the cowow type route but I do understand that those few extra pounds make the difference to some.

The recovery is not part of years four and five as I had that "discussion " with Skoda uk in March when I pointed out that the wording clearly states that it extends the three warranty. They said no, so I ask where does it state that and all they would say is no but my dealer accepted my argument/reasoning and paid for it. Cost £145 for two years all singing all dancing. Happy bunny again.

Fair play then, the best I could get locally was approx 2k off so it was a no brainier for me.

  • 1 year later...

Going back to this old thread, does anyone know why the extended manufacturers warranty can only be taken out when buying the car??

My Superb II also made 100,000 miles with hardly any issues, just an annoying driver's window regulator fail at around 80k miles. I hope the Superb III will be as good, first impressions are very positive.

That 2 year extension needs taking before the car is First Registered,

there was the 2 Year Skoda Approved Warranty to take at the end of the 2 or 3 year warranty with Car Care Ltd.]Now there is the 12 months at a time VW Group Skoda Warranty available.
