Quite annoyed

Featured Replies

OK, as you all know, my poorly Golf has been laid up until I can find a replacement ECU for it, which I have just received.

In that time, I declared the car SORN, and my folks said to put it in the garage... fair enough thought I.

So why is it every day they feel they have the right to whinge about having to scrape ice off their car (not that it even happens every day)? They offered to put it in there, and yet they are whinging at me about it being in the garage.

They've even been saying that they'll write off the money I owe them for it if I just get rid of it (at any price). That sounds reasonable? Well I feel like I should try and fix it and give another enthusiast a go with this car, and in the bonus, get more money for it than trying to sell a broken car.

Just had a row with my mother, because she decided to act the "expert" with me, and asked me how much I thought I'd get for it -

Can't you leave it somewhere else? Oh and I sympathise, I've been through these sort of situations before. Selective parental memory syndrome I call it

Or suggest an alternative solution? I always found being pro-active and thinking around the problem helped diffuse things. Perhaps offering to cover their car(s) with newspaper each night when frost is forecast? :rubchin:

Meet them in the middle - scrape there cars for them in the morning.

I'd get pi'd off if one of my offspring dumped their dead car in my garage while mine sits outside..lol

How long has it been in there? Has it overstayed its welcome?

Its been in there a couple of weeks... I've got the part needed to probably fix it, so its not like its gonna be much longer....

Stick in there Paul. When it's fixed and sold, you'll at least have the satisfaction of having done a better job than flogging it basically for scrap, which is what you'd be doing selling it in its current condition. Walkie's suggestion is probably a good one - admit you're causing a little inconvenience but show what a fine fellow you are by offering to scrape their car(s) for them.

Also an old towel makes a great windscreen protector overnight - just shut it in the doors to keep it in place over the screen.

Buy a car cover or help them out some other way.

It probably didn't cross their mind that they'd be quite so inconvenienced when they offered to store the car.

IMO the car needs fixing and moving out of the garage ASAP. Otherwise it could become a recurring conversation piece that'll just end up p*ssing everyone off.

No offence but you seem a lazy ****.

Perhaps a bit of parental loving might help.

Im refraining from comment :D

The impression I get is that you care more for your car than you do your parents. Is that correct?

Err, no.

Anyway, the part is here, everyone is calm this evening, and quietly optimistic. If this doesnt fix it, then it goes for spares and repairs, it really is that simple.

But thanks for the insults anyway

What an immature thing to say

Walkie I don't want to fall out with you again but it was not at all "immature" although at my age I am flattered by the thought. Please read the post again, read the replies from others and his replies to them. That is the IMPRESSION that he gives. I was not suggesting for one minute that it was correct, as I am sure it isn't, just explaining how these sorts of complaints can look. I suppose you could call it an attempt at irony.:) :)

Not sure how my post implied that I somehow cared more for a rusty banger than my parents... basically I was just getting narked at the daily whinging after they offered to have it in the garage. I'd rather pay the money back than let them lose all that money they spent, and quite how that means i care more for the car than my parents, well i'm amazed anyone can come to that conclusion, so i'm afraid i'm with walkie on this one, maybe not immature, but certainly quite stupid IMO.
