DSG Sport Mode ?

Featured Replies

You know on the gear selector ?

Well in drive you can push it to the left for tiptronic. Up and down to change gears.

Reading the manual it sounds like the S is for sport. If so how do you select it ? You know where it says D/S.

I was thinking the only way to select sport was to press the button which selects the modes.

Just pull the gear lever down again (in the spring loaded position) after you get to D, and it springs down and then back up to the D/S position. And on your Maxidot you'll see that doing so makes it cycle between S and D mode. Simples!

I think your right in just using the drive select mode option.

The earlier DSG boxes had separate gear lever positions for D and S, unlike the new ones where D and S share the same gear lever position.

I'm sure it should just be the spring loaded position right at the bottom of the gear lever's range of movement.

Yep this is correct - and each time you pull it down it cycles between D and S

Seems we're both right, you can either move it to the spring loaded position, or by selecting the drive mode 'Sport', does the same thing.

Taken from the handbook:

If the Sport driving mode is selected with the engine running Selection of the driving mode(Driving Mode Selection) , the transmission is automatically set in the S mode.

By pulling back on the lever in drive it quickly engages sport mode on the box and gives you a faster response on the throttle etc.

Very handy when you come up to junctions/roundabouts etc to give you a quicker getaway, then just pull it back again and it goes back to the previous selected mode e.g Eco or Drive or leave it and it eventually goes back to the previous mode.

Saves you messing about trying to change the mode via the other button, ideal when you need a quick change :)

+1.

Better than the older stick, 'cos you can now slide over to manual mode whilst in "S"..............

Nick, when you've got a few more miles on the clock, try using "S" from a standing start, just make sure that you have any empty road in front of you!

A quick dip into "S" is also useful if you want more engine braking but are too busy steering to use the paddles.

I presently drive a 2.0TDI VW Passat DSG without paddles but I am now very close to ordering a Superb SEL Exec1.4TSI petrol DSG and am wondering whether paddles may be useful. Any thoughts?

I find the paddles very handy to give a bit of braking without touching the brakes and setting off everyone off behind into a braking frenzy!

Spend the £95, it's worth it just for the fun factor, (fingertip gear shifting is so 21st century....).

Seriously, we've paddles on all of  our cars & use them every time we want to shift "now" rather than wait for the 'box to decide, usually when about to go up or downhill,

or feel the need to get through a corner safely when we are in a hurry.

I won't buy a new or s/hand DSG with-out them...........

Get the paddles. I regret not getting them.

There are some situations were they can be good to have.

I've stuck the paddles on my order.
