It's not set yet, I need to get the test site up.

Crudely subforums yes, but not under detailing.

This is not in any stone, heck it's still on paper and my local dev installs. My goal is not to go more than 1 forum deep into a section, a few I cannot avoid it. Subforums below that don't get seen QED used.

So:

Zone - section

>Forum - Ideal goal depth

>>Subforum I - deepest rivets pop.

>>>Subforum II - crush depth - no one goes here.

So I'm foreseeing a section of guides/ how to's that covers / reflects the techzone fora. There will be more tech zone for things like handling, turbo, engines etc. There will also be a 'downloads' area for brochures / flyers etc nothing stopping a detailing co publishing guides and permitting us to distribute...

Putting wax to one side a topic in the Fabia forum on a 1.4tsi tuning repeated in the Octavia, Superb and Yeti forum isn't working. So it lives in a engine tuning forum tagged (forced) as 1.4tsi.

That example does not help in the wax world and honestly I'd not gotten down to all the forums details... I'm still deciding on a colour for the new site ;)

Keep discussing I'll go to observer. Hopefully if I can bash my client work I can get a test site up with some examples. I can play out a half dozen examples and come back for feedback...

Lets wait to see what others have to say

So do I Neil

...He's contributed so much in the last couple of years too... I didn't mean that to sound at all patronising BTW

BUT

When he ceases ignoring me...It will be the way forward and the Section can move forward for the better..That is certain!

couldn't agree more.  this place is so full of info and inspiration partly because of Ste, he clearly knows a gret deal, enjoys his hobby and shares it well.

Had a think about layout yesterday and I know Colin said sub forums are a bit too deep, but here is what I think.

Zone

>Forum - Detailing and car care

>>Detailing Discussion - Advice and product discussions

>>Product Reviews - (Gadgets and waxes, polish etc)

>>Detailing Discounts - As with the current pinned

>>Showroom - (Lets see those cars) In line with the current rules.

I feel this structure would clean up the current forum in place. Make things easier to find and may keep people more happy as they only need to look at what they want to and not have to sift through everything.

Thanks.

Virtually my suggestion Neil

This needs some understanding from posters

For example:

Geoffrey's Thursday Detail with Swissoil Krystal Stones Wax Review..Two sections covered in one post

Hey everyone.

It has been discussed that people are feeling a little uncomfortable with the direction this part of the forum is steering.

I feel personally, that this subject needs to be discussed for the good of the forum. Please keep it impersonal, no attacks on individuals. You may need to use tact as this has the potential to spiral. Keep it on topic and keep it constructive. This by no means makes it compulsory for anyone to change, but will be a chance to clear the air. All views welcome.

Mods if this is inappropriate please remove. I understand this may need close monitoring, but this section should be enjoyed by all. Lets get this forum back on track.

Hey Neil et al,

Thanks for your wise words and very honest and truthful summary on the situation within this section.

You have been a breath of fresh air in the forum, and you really do have a way with words that has

been very beneficial to the section recently and avoided any unnecessary nonsense.

As always happy to get involved and support where required - especially if we are promoting a better section for the future!

I have been a Skoda owner, and stay loyal to the VAG group with a VW and Seat model currently.

I participate in this forum as a relaxing hobby and I thoroughly enjoy my detailing.

Therefore, this is key for me in the updates and changes going forward!

The forum is certainly getting more active and some new blood in the group which is great to see.

I like to learn, try new products/suppliers, alternative techniques and most of all share with updates others.

It might save you guys time, money, effort or it might cost you money to go buy a new product.

This is my hobby... not a business, or commercial, or for financial gain....discussed at length with Colin D as well.

One final comment, if it requires comment, as I hear there are numerous posts aimed at me from Chrisrs.

As has been stated many times; my current profile does have Chrisrs BLOCKED - due to historic posts, threads, thread deletes, etc.

This is not a tool to antagonise - it is very regretful that it has been at this level for sure,

but simply the only method (so far) by which we avoid argument and disagreement bringing down threads.

I have asked a few times via MODs/Admin and directly for this boundary to be respected; and end the harassment.

I'm unsure if this particular issue can be resolved - but if so - it will be a face-2-face; not multiple posts on the forum;

but ultimately - it should not affect the running of the forum, and the positivity should remain for you guys.

Hopefully nothing too controversial in there (I'm sure the Mods will let me know!)

So to end -  go for it guys - your forum, your choices, your decisions..... with ColinD's blessing of course.

As I'm just back online after the weekend - I will read over and divulge the posts above.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Ste.

Clearing the air and talking openly on those points are of massive benefit. It gives clear direction; no messing about, I appreciate your honesty and hope we can move forward on your stance with Chris, however unfortunate it may be.

As you put it so publically Steve..Heres my public face on the situation too:

You live 400 yards away and have never come round..I don't know which house you live in as you moved here not long ago..so hard for me to achieve a 'Face to Face'

You blocked me on Facebook and have ignored my texts. You even ignored me when I tried to communicate via PM's and Status Updates...in an attempt to sort it all out

Ive tried to meet face to face as you well know in the recent past, when I turned up at Alan's. Your face said it all!

I even asked you 'face to face' why you were not speaking to me...You told me' "I have nothing to say to you"

At a mutual social event (Whiskey Tasting), you went out of the way to ignore me...So please don't say we have to meet Face to Face because you clearly don't mean it

You don't want to sort this out Steve ...You appear happy to keep the status quo..Or would you prefer to carry on as we are?

Your choice. However, ignoring my posts gets us nowhere and adversely affects the forum and prospective posters

So I'm asking you to stop this 'nonsense' and lets move on and maybe...just maybe the 'nonsense' between us may eventually be dissolved

The Olive Branch is again extended.

OK...

Neil. Thanks again for your wise words..Lets hope this section can move forwards

Anyone else reading?

What are your thoughts.. We need your input too guys

hahah - that's pretty harsh Colin!!!   ;)

.... you'll be catching up with my warning point count soon! :giggle:

  • Administrators

That was the best one I could find from my keep calm folder  :(

I think I've blown a fuse in the regulator somewhere then, not that harsh is it? Not meant to be, more tongue in cheek, but not alot of tongue or cheek on show I guess

No but really we do need to let some stuff go under the bridge of time as life counter ticks down.

Please from a unbiased bystander point of view can the two of you either make up again (preferably as you both offer stunning advice in this section which benefits us all massively) or break up which isn't beneficial to anyone what so ever.

Laid my cards on the table

Time will reveal

Toxic frog says it well.  For us bystanders, especially us novices, we really want Ste to continue with his inspiring and informative posts, and Chris to carry on with his informative and inspiring stuff too.  BOTH of you are really welcoming on here to us that need help.  I'm sure whatever caused the tension between you doesn't need to be aired publicly, in fact other than somebody saying 'guys, you're both being silly, now shake hands and let they be the end of it'. There is nothing we can achieve.   I would guess that you would both benefit from sharing your hobby together, but if you can't, then please just be reasonable, and respect each other.   This will continue to be a great place they way, I'm sure.

Coming back to the'car of the month' suggestion.... I like it but...... It'll be a Chris or Ste win 10 out of 12 months.... Jason once or twice, Hunty with some silver gilts.   Can you guys take this friendly competition in the right spirit, and not let it boil over?   Judges decision final and all that?...... Any reports of sabotage in Bingley's hot den of detailing would be very upsetting! :dull:   :D

Very reasonable, sensible words and sentiments in there mate - which is whole-heartedly appreciated I must admit.

I would like to just say that I have tried the "Guys - you're both being silly, now shake hands and let they be the end of it" scenario;

it just didn't work out unfortunately - been there done that.  So what next - marriage guidance counselling?!? :giggle:

For the record - the "Car of the Month" should and would be a Skoda I'm sure - that's rule #1; so I don't think I would participate.

Maybe we need to ban Karl and Hunty now.... as they produce some cracking results ;)

I think a "Car of the Month" comp would be great, there are some exceptionally talented guys that don't use this part of the forum. They would put me to shame!

I dont know either of you two chaps (Chris and Samuir / Ste / Steve (I'm assuming thats the same person)) personally but from where I'm standing it seems to me that its only Chris that wants an end to this.

I've read all the many many posts where Chris has tried to get `S/S/S` to stop ignoring him...it does seem a one way street.

Such a shame

Regards

Mike.

I'm quite new to this part of the forum but have enjoyed using it as and when I get time, new products and so on.

Either way, I'm happy to help & be involved in making it a better place & easier to use section. Other than that I haven't really got much else to add but will keep following the thread and go from there.

Bless you buddy - I appreciate your efforts past and present.

Well said Mike

The Olive Branch is held out..Like I say

Thanks

'The Cat' (thanks to Alan)

Not nessessarily for Detailing...Could be mods...Something different etc.....

Well I've met both of you and you both seamed like reasonable human beings when I met you so I don't see any reason why you couldn't make up again, if you wanted to. But then that isn't any of my business really. I think Colin put it about right.

As for the section at the minute is it is all under one section and I think it needs subsections to steer people in the right direction.A section for people who are new to car care, a product review section and then a section to show off and compare.

Having asked you several questions today Samuir1974.. I see you've chosen to continue to ignore me

Ok....that's you're decision..fine

What a sad day for the Forum
