mild upgrades to my 1.2 HTP

Featured Replies

:hi: hello fellow fabia fans!

I am considering a few upgrades to my 2004 1.2 htp classic. looking at a few things on ebay. these arent massive upgrades, just things to jazz it up a bit, I'm 42 so grown out of all the 'usual' stuff! lol

my choice of upgrades are:

sport seat upgrade. like in the fabia sport, with white piping, to replace my flamenco trim.

vrs alloys. seen a mk1 in same colour as mine ( dynamic blue) looks nice.

instrument cluster upgrade to one with grey in dials ( facelift model i think )

new gear gaiter and knob, seen on ebay

led light upgrades to interior courtesy light in blue

led light bulb upgrades to side, brake light, indicator, reverse and fog.

some badge upgrades once bodywork is sorted.

new speakers for front doors and rear parcel shelf covers, as rear doesn't have any. and front ones are shot.

just a few questions......

1. how do i remove the instrument dial pod to replace with upgraded one? some on ebay say they have to be reprogrammed? where do i stand with the digi mileage? also thinking of fitting blue led bulb to dials instead of current green. how easy is this to do?

2. how easy is it to remove gear gaiter/knob?

3. how do i remove front door cards? is it easy to fit the speakers if i look for ones which slot straight in?

This is the first time I have ever done any mods to a car, so any help would be helpful. will post pics as and when they are completed

thanks everyone!  :sun:  :sun:  :sun:

Sports seats, nice easy direct fit, but quite rare and exspencive, try and get the black door cards to match as well.

Vrs alloys, nice upgrade, keeps things looking quite standard.

I've never messed with the clocks, I read far to many stories of fault dash's after they've been messed with, they have the immobiliser build in and if removed can be a pain.

Gear knob and gator is easy enough, prise the gator up which will reveal a metal clip crimped around the gear selector, open the clip up and pull upwards.

I've never changed the speakers, read a few posts but looks a little more in depth than just swapping them over. The door card are easy to remove, few screws along the bottom, couple behind the arm rest/grab handle part and one behind the mirror adjuster/blank beside the door handle. Rest is just pop clips. I've read a few guides on here so know they exist

seen a nice set on ebay for 190. will keep my eyes out for future sets. so gear knob and gaiter are one unit yh?

Maybe look for Ibiza fr/ Cupra seats too. They will be a direct fit.

Rather than changing the clocks themselves see if all the revs and speed match from both on the plastic sheet.

You may be able to swap just that, rather than getting a new cluster coded.

Changing the LEDs in the cluster isn't too difficult, but will require soldering as it uses surface mount LEDs.

I am also replacing both headlights which are misted up. replaced both reverse light bulbs today but still not working, so am purchasing a switch and getting my mate with a mk1 vrs to fit for me.

hi everyone, today i got my mate to sort out reversing lights which haven't worked since i got the car. I purchased a new switch from murrays skoda, plymouth along with some new wiper blades and a full set of washers jets.

the reversing light issue was a mix of the switch, wiring, and a blown fuse! now all working lovely!

i asked him to check why the rear washer doesnt spray water on the screen. after taking off the cover inside the boot and operating the washer, it appears the black plastic bit nearest the motor that the washer pipe goes in has split forcing water into the boot cover!

does this little piece come off, or do i get a complete new wiper motor?

any help would be most welcome

I'm still wondering why my car has only one reverse light but bulbs on each side.

Are you sure one of the bulbs isn't blown? Mine has two reverse lights.

In any case, it wouldn't be that difficult to run a wire across to get a feed from the working one.

If you can't cover it in self-amalgamating tape or similar, you may have to buy a new wiper motor or bodge it somehow with say epoxy and copper tubing....

i got my mate to fit a replacement from a scrapyard which doesn't leak. happy days. also splashed out on oem wiper blades. wot a big difference. will never buy motor factor ones again!

now my next job is getting replacement headlights and getting them fitted. onwards and upwards!
