  • If you mean auto relock after 30 seconds if a door has not been opened, I am pretty sure that the answer is no. I never use the centre remote button to unlock the boot having had grief in the past fr

  • Opening the boot does disable the auto relock, if you have globally opened the car (ie pushed the open padlock button). If you just push the open boot button, this enables the boot to be opened only

  • Can you not shut the boot after doing everything else? I'm not being flippant, I just mean - you unlock car, open boot, put keys in boot and unload everything, pick up keys, shut boot. That seems like

Still looking for me coat.

Just unlock the car and put the keys in your pocket, it works for me. (but I'm old school.) If I'm in and out of the boot, I unlock all doors, open the boot, and then within 30 seconds open and shut one of the passenger doors, then all doors and boot stay unlocked. If not, in 30 secs all doors lock and the boot locks on closing. Hence, plip, keys to pocket.

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't relock if I have opened only the boot.

I'd be surprised if it didn't .

Personally I don't remove the key from my pocket to lock or unlock......I can't trust myself it seems.

BEWARE ! you can lock yourself out with your key on the back seat !!!!!

My car is set to unlock the drivers and right hand passenger doors.

If you unlock the car and only open the back passenger door and then close it the car will still auto lock within 30 seconds.

When it does this the car is locked, the alarm is not set and the flashing LED in the drivers door remains OFF.

Because the drivers door was not opened the auto locking was not deactivated and is still in place.

I have not checked to see if the deadlocks are on but it seems like another way to lock pets in without the alarm being set.

The way to get around this problem is to have your key tied on a bungee cord attached to something outside your car :D

If you open any door, regardless of the central locking settings the auto lock should disable. If this is not happening then the car is not aware that the door you opened was actually opened, if this is the drivers side rear door then I would check that the microswitch on that door is working.

Unlock car, get in, close drivers door and switch on ignition. Get someone else to open the drivers side rear door, if the door open symbol does not light on the dash then the microswitch is faulty.

Ok, I have just been out and tested it.

Scenario 1: I unlocked the car ('open padlock' button) and left it. Precisely 30s later the car relocked itself.

Scenario 2: I unlocked the car ('open padlock' button), opened the tailgate, closed it again and waited. And waited. And waited. The auto 'welcome' lights went out after 30s but the car stayed resolutely unlocked.

It is feasible that they have made alterations to these behaviours over the years, or in different counties, but my car behaves as I expected it to, and exactly the same way my 2013 Audi A1 behaves too.

Sorry but you are wrong in respect of the Yeti.

It has a 3 button remote fob, and if the car is locked but you press the Boot button it only releases that lock and temporarily turns off the internal sensors, and when you close the boot it locks itself again, and turns the alarm back on.

That's not what mannyo was talking about. If you unlock the boot with the centre button it disables the alarm but doesn't unlock any other door. If you unlock the car and open a door then it won't re-lock. This was the case with other cars, such as the MkII octavia.

I'm pretty sure you can turn off the automatic re-locking with VCDS. I don't think you can disable the boot locking if you just open the boot with the centre fob button.

Selective locking/unlocking can be done through Maxidot or with VCDS.

But the car should never lock itself after a door has been opened when all of the doors are unlocked.

My Dad did same thing when he had his Merc. Had to call specialist with slim jim.

Hang them around your neck or as stated put them in a pocket.

Instinct says I just open and close the drivers door, or any door really, and then go to the boot. It won't auto lock then.

Thank you - never used the centre remote button anyway!! Too many buttons, too much 'puter!! All I want is a car to drive - I have a laptop at home.

Would y'all believe that I still have my wonderful flip phone? Only makes phone calls and texts with difficulty. I do have a Huddle but only use it when I am travelling.

Did we ever get all the facts behind this pot boiler?

Did you simply drive up to your friend and get out with the keys in the ignition....or where were they?

Did you open the rear hatch at all?

Nothing adds up for me at least......do YOU now think you understand what happened?

IMHO the only way to do what you say happened is to have done it deliberately...

My mate once started his car and left it running and shut the door while talking to us only to find out 15 mins later the door was locked. He had to get his dad out of bed at 1am to drive half an hour to come and unlock it.... He wasn't pleased but it was funny!

No, don't remember the exact scenario, i.e. doors opened or closed etc.  BUT I left the keys in the boot while I removed the walker and by mistake forgot they were there, closed the boot and couldn't get back into the car or boot again!!  Had to go upstairs and get the other set of keys.

So now trying to find a place to hide the spare set.

Just amazed by all the interest in my original question.  It was a YES/NO question  :D :D :D :D

Enjoying my 15 minutes of fame though

Steady Ryeman, thats a question even woman with a full brain has difficulty with......

Ah!

Yes you have to be careful with convenience tech.

Thanks Mannyo, I have taken your advice and checked all the microswitches, They all work and light up the display. Now I can't replicate what previously happened so hoping this was only a glitch and everyone can ignore my previous post. The site won't allow me to delete it now.

There is another scenario that would cause a keys-locked-in-car situation.  If you push the 'lock' button on the fob ('closed padlock') whilst a door and/or boot is open, the car will lock up as soon as the last open door is closed, at which point it will lock and arm.  It is possible to plip the 'lock' with the boot open, put the key in the boot, then shut the boot and lock yourself out.

Instinct says I just open and close the drivers door, or any door really, and then go to the boot. It won't auto lock then.

Nor will it just by opening the boot - the boot acts as a door in this situation and cancels the auto-relock function.

All this is moot though - OP asks if the 30s relock can be removed, but it is likely that this isn't the cause of the issue.
