I'm now due for new tires and have done a quick run-around the local garages and have a choice to make....

1) Eagle F1s ( 160 yoyos a corner)

2) Continental Sport Contact (200 yoyos a corner)

there are still the cheap an nasty ones.... Kumhos (which I'm on at the moment), Nankang (never heard of them), etc.

Nowhere I know can get Vrestestein's (is that you you spell it?) :(

So which would you have?

I have the conti's and I really like em... I'm replacing imminently with the same... however I've had experiance of the F1's and they are also good...........

edit: I have my tires done at a local place that does the police suburu's and they put the g'year F1's on them.....

I had a set of Continental Sportcontact on my Megane 2 and they lasted about 12,000 miles. Federal S595 are superb all round budget tyres. Check the thread on Federal tyres.

As long as that !!!!

I changed to Khumo's when the rear tyres wore out, they were superb in ALL respects. Conti's were crap. Where have we seen this thread before Jonny:rofl:

I have put Federals on the front last week. The offer was worth trying them out. So far they are no worse than the contis in the wet. Not had a dry day to test them on dry roads yet! I expect the wear rate to be less but I will let people know.

Have to admit that I found contis to be rubbish, put them on my felicia and they were worn out in 12k.

By contrast by favorit had michelins on and in the 18 months and 20k i covered they never needed replacing (honestly!). When I had my fabia i replaced what was on it with michelins as they needed replacing and again found them to be superb.

Hmmmm....... Let me think ...... :clapclap: :D

I don't know what size you need but Goodyear Eagles can be had for around £100 for 17", that's about 145 Euros ? Toyos are a decent "budget" alternative at £83. Contis just aren't grippy enough for me, especially in the wet.

That would be 'Vredestein' but I dunno where/if you can get them, soz.

Not had much trouble with the Contis, but apparently there are two versions, I've got the v2s and grip seemed ok, including in the wet, not on the track, not remapped either :)

mmm i think there are two versions of the conti's being discussed here, 'cause I swear mine are as grippy as any tyre's I've tried, including the F1's! mine are the continental sportcontact 2........ I've had slightly better dry weather tyres, but the conti's are fantastic in rain or greasy conditions......

Contis are on the Furby (a lowly powered 64 bhp one) and they just DO NOT grip.

My favourites are Michelin (not too expensive from costco) or Goodyear or Pirelli. but as a budget tyre Federal aren't too bad.

@JMK2 - could you check the 'exact type' of Contis you've got please? I'd just like to compare as it seems sharkrider & myself are both happy with the Sport Contact II and generally there appear to be two sets of experiences with it, one being 'yeah it's perfectly fine thanks' the other being 'it's pretty much rubbish'.

Appreciate you taking the time :)

My Sportcontact IIs are good IMHO unless you're driving like a moron and at under £100 a corner at my local Walkers Hi-Q I'm happy!

Sport Contact 2 on my Megane were crap. I believe this is the version you are refering to. I'll never have them again

Hi

I have Sport Contact II on the Fabia vRS and rate them very highly. They grip well in the wet or dry, resist aquaplaning well, are stable in corners and good under braking. Direction changes are quick, with reasonably stiff sidewalls and good stability under cornering forces, typical of a tyre with unbroken ribs. Wear rate seems good for a tyre with this much grip.

On the downside, they dont drift as predictably as some in the wet and are noisy.

Tyre choice is a very personal thing. Some prefer a tyre that grips loads and then lets go, others prefer a tyre that grips a bit and then drifts predictably. Some like stiff sidewalls, some like softer ones.

I would have them again, but will try something else when the time comes in order to see if I can get the tyre noise down. Currently contemplating Kumo KU31, Uniroyal Rainsport, Toyo T1R and Yokohama C Drive.

The Conti's I was quoted for are the Sport contact 2's.

The Kumhos on my car at present are the KH-11s, not bad gripi in the dry (I can corner at 10mph faster than the Michelins I had previously), but they easily loose grip in the wet.

What do people think about the Pirelli P-Zero's ? Any good?

I've just had a set on F1's on the front, just run em in , about 200 miles, will be doing the derbyshire meet tomorrow, and driving the cat & fiddle, I'll post on how they compair to the conti's, think it will be raining too!

I'll second that, I love mine, despite my initial concerns about fuel economy

I had the standard Bridgestone Potenza (RE040) on my CTR from new. Very good in dry, pretty poor in the wet to say the least, very stiff sidewall meant it felt like you were on rails (which i liked) but they were all grip then slip, not very predictable or progressive (which I didn't like).

Changed for Hankook Ventus Sport K104 which were half the price but significantly better IMO than the pots. Softer sidewall so tiny bit of wallow at speed on corners and dart and track at silly speeds ;) but better traction in wet and dry(read less wheelspins (and smoother without hopping too when it happened)), better grip when cornering in wet and dry, better stopping, and more progressive breakway at the limit. Also a bit quieter/more comfortable. Would defo recommend Hankook sport range tyres.

On my new FvRS I have the Conti SportContact 2s and I love them. Not sure if it's the tyres, or the setup, or both but I find it much more confidence inspiring than the CTR was after 18K miles of driving, and that's at just over 1K on the clock of my furby.

I also have to say that after reading on here and elsewhere before getting it about the suspension I was expecting to be disappointed, and have to upgrade, but that just isn't the case. Coming from the rock hard and almost zero bodyroll under *hard* cornering suspension in the CTR, I don't find the standard setup on the FvRS to be too soft at all... in fact it is perfect for the road IMO, if not as good for the track. But as 99.9% of driving is done on the road..... :)

I've just upgraded my fronts to Toyo Proxy T1R's and got them at a great price of £72.85 a corner fitted after phoning around. This was a local tyre centre called Calthorpe Tyres in Birmingham but ended up getting them from Formula One Autocentre cos they said they'd price match. The grip is great far better then the standards I had which were worn by 10k but only just got round to replacing them after 13k. Also there is minimal road noise compared to the conti's which is great on long journeys. Cornering there is more control where before I used to get slipping around particular roundabouts or sharp turns. And finally I get alot less wheel spin on acceleration where with the conti's they used to spin in 2nd still on more adventurous drives where now I get next to none. Also a friend of mine who has an octy vrs has toyos on his and also loves them compared to what he had as standard.

AvRS: I've always heard how good the toyo's are, but when I asked in my tyre place, he said, "yes they are good, but SO soft you'll wear them out in no time.." doing really high mileage, I went for the F1's, you'll ave to let us know how many miles you make on the toyo's before they wear out... I made 18,000 on the front conti's before I replaced them (they were still legal... just..)

Don't even look at Falkens, crap except for the wet and also at least 10% drop in fuel , and they vibrate, I hope to wear them out soon.
