SC IIs have a good rep with my local tyre dealer (used them instead of the Skoda garage who wanted to charge me 40 quid PER TYRE more (!!) and then couldn't deliver them until January some time..)

Considering I would have done at least another 3000 miles by then I didnt wait.

SC IIs are a big improvement over the 'I's apparently (speaking to the guy at the tyre place). My rear tyres are still in great condition, fronts were getting a little dodgy in the wet at 24k, they were replaced at 25k miles.

Car is standard at the moment, and it appears to hold well enough for that. Same problems as usual in 1st/2nd and when wet & caning it, 3rd will slip for a little while if you're really going for it. Remapped it's probably another gear, dunno (yet :P ).

IMHO if you're going to want the best performance you'll end up with tyres that last less long but grip better.

Cost-wise, I'm actually starting to wonder if 17" wheels + tyres are cheaper?

40,000 and counting on my Mitchelins, 2mm left to go yet too (i.e. 4mm tread depth at present). Anyone beat that?

im sticking with the uniroyal rainsport2 that i got on mine, needing front set replaced shortly tho...

The Conti's I was quoted for are the Sport contact 2's.

The Kumhos on my car at present are the KH-11s' date=' not bad gripi in the dry (I can corner at 10mph faster than the Michelins I had previously), but they easily loose grip in the wet.

What do people think about the Pirelli P-Zero's ? Any good?[/quote']

P Zeros Neros are bloody great and I love them but I've just fitted Kumho Ecsta Sport KU 31s and in the dry they are as good as the Pirellis - not used them in the wet yet.

I'll check out the prices on the P Zeros... Thanks for the tip!

Sportcontact2 are good, and wear quite well, but they do 'go off' before the tread wears down completely.

I had a set of Continental Sportcontact on my Megane 2 and they lasted about 12,000 miles. Federal S595 are superb all round budget tyres. Check the thread on Federal tyres.

I had a set of Continentals on my felicia they lasted less than 5,000 miles

all cracked so bad all crud

re-call done later but car in france now running on EXCELLENT CZ rubber :)

I rate Michelin Pilot Primacy's (205/55 R16) very highly, both for grip, comfort and longevity. I previously used two sets (85,000 miles) on an Astra 1.8 SRi, however, I now have an Octy 2 1.9 Tdi which has just had a new pair of Michelin's to compliment the rears replaced earlier in the year.

For interest, I got good wear out of the factory fitted Bridgestone Turanza's. At 18,000 miles I swapped them front to back, at 21,000 I had new rears (original fronts), with new fronts (original rears) at 30,000 miles. My driving is 80% on motorways/ A roads.

I've just replaced the Conti Sport Contact 2's on the front, at 24k miles for the first time. Grip seems fine and there's no cheap way to experiment with different tyres.

I'll check out the prices on the P Zeros... Thanks for the tip!

P Zero Nero's - 225 x 45 R17's are the tyres for the Octy vRS. Be warned they need running in, in fact they are at their best at about 3mm. I am on my 4th set on 2 Octy's, wet or dry they are the nuts.
