Discounts offered to MkII owners affected by emissions scandal

Featured Replies

Anyone heard of Skoda offering big discounts on a MK III to owners of a Mk II affected by the emissions scandal ?

Alternatively, offering to credit a high price for their MK II against a new MK III.

This would certainly prompt my changeover more quickly and keep my brand loyalty.

Anyone else think this would be a good idea for them to consider if they haven't already ?

Doubt it happening to be honest.

The popularity of the S3 is already having supply issues on some lines, doing this would further impact

The last thing Skoda needs is Shedloads of affected MK II s.

They're more likely to give you an Incentive to keep it.

I was just pleased to have secured a guaranteed trade in price for mine with the dealership ahead of any delays (luckily none on my order) and the emissions scandal (which broke well after the point the agreement was struck).

There's probably some mileage in brand loyalty at the moment. Kind of reverse logic but you might get more out of a dealership deal by not trying to take advantage of something that's not Skoda's fault, and is well out of the dealership's control.

Perhaps after the frenzy close to launch has settled down, they might be glad to incentivise a MkIII purchase later on, by offering a really good trade in price.

For example, the price I paid for it new, given back. Or if that is too greedy, then maybe 88-92 % of it back, for my three year old high mileage MkII.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks they deserve to be compensated for something that they were perfectly happy with before the scandal news was broken.

Sorry but the fact its 3 years old and high mileage is proof there is nothing ‘wrong’ with the car so all they will give you is bottom book price for it.

As for giving you 88-92% of your purchase price back for something which they will consider is near the end of its life (based on the mileage) is amusing.

Not sure why you are still keen on the Superb TBH as you have already said:

The engines are too noisy

You cannot get the wheels you want

The ICE is not good enough

Did I miss anything?

Mog are you sure you're living in the same etheral plane as the rest of us ! :-D

I'm not sure if you're just having a laugh or trolling to be honest ..... Hopefully not the latter ...

Presumably the customers you drove over the last 3 years were happy prior to emissions announcement and I guess ones since the announcement are too? Would you be giving them 90% of their fares back if you were successful?

No, that's far off the mark.

I remain very keen on the Superb, especially the MkIII.

-  My comment on the diesels is true, they are noisier than some other manufacturers engines. There should be no harm in saying it here or in hoping that the situation improves. They are still reasonable enough to not stand in the way of getting a new Skoda. Also, the petrol, 1.4 anyway, is also an option and by all accounts is very quiet.

- I can get the wheels I want if I compromise on the model spec. I have stated it is unfortunate to restrict as they do but again there should be no problem discussing this.  I would prefer smaller wheels and to avoid low profile, which I can do at the end of the day.

- I have never said the ICE is not good enough. I have actually said that I'd spec the Canton without a thought, notwithstanding it not doing what I hoped it would do in respect of actual noise cancellation.

I think it is a good thing to encourage Skoda to pursue what the likes of Harman Kardon's Halo Sonic techologies can offer and it is good to raise peoples awareness of what else is possible, beyond the Canton system. The abilities of the Canton system as a music player stands in its own right and I would spec it for all the money it is. Definitely worth itI'd say and I say that with no experience of it.

Criticism is good.  Prompting to move in better/additional directions is good.  Raising awareness in the community is good.  The thing about noise cancellation is I think importatant. It is somewhat a holy grail and yet, actually achieveable if the manufacturer takes an interest. Sales could benefit in the same way as people buy the cleverly spacious Superb rather than pay money for a big luxury class car. Do the same with cabin silence.

And by the way, if there was a true noise cancellation system in place, noisy wheels and noisy engines could be effectively counteracted.

The fact is though we don't yet know what the future holds, value wise for the affected cars.

The market will decide soon enough once VW starts 'fixing' the problem.

A trade in would be nice, but obviously when I talk about 88-92 % I am just trying to be funny.

Or they could maybe do a promotion, for example "Free Kittens" ( for the L&K, Bengals or Abyssinians ) or something like that.
