New RS - which options ?

Featured Replies

I was thinking about some of the floowing options if going for the New one. I'm not sure if there all available but which ones would you go for & which would you not and why ?

Parking sensors (rear and front) Sunroof Xenonlights 18" Wheels

Multi-Function Steering Wheel

Maxidot

Phone Carkit (Bluetooth)

Alarm (Clifford)

MP3 Player

Metallic Paint

Rear Wiper

Electric Folding Mirrors

Xenons - Are they really that good ?

Maxidot - I don't know much about it, is it linked into the mulitfunction steering wheel ? What functions are on it ?

Bluetooth Car Kit - Do Skoda do a factory fitted one (theu do on German site).

Clifford Alarm - Can anyone explain the difference between Anti-Hijack and BlackJax ?

MP3 Player - Are there Skoda own brand units available ? What are they referred to ? Do they play MP3's burnt onto disc or is there an in-line one available ?

Electric Folding Mirrors - Also seen on German site (well at least thats what I think it was referring to.)

The 18" wheels would be top of my list... and the sat nav would be lovely.

I can recommend getting the parking sensors. I've got the rears on my Mk1 and they really do make parking so much easier.

One good selling point of the mark 1 was it was pretty loaded without having too long an options list.

Really annoys me.Thats why speccing a mini to a decent spec ends up costing you

Parking sensors and the alarm for me.

Parking sensors - I would personally go for the rear ones, you don't really need fronts as it is hard to judge the distance with the boot.

Xenons - I found they are a lot brighter than normal

Maxidot - in the UK it is supplied with the steering wheel. The controls are: fast forward and rewind (also swaps disc in changer if pressed quickly)/radio search, mute, volume, trtack up and down/prese radio stations, and a button to turn the steering wheel lights on and off. I find it useful and safer as you are not looking away to change anything.

Bluetooth car kit - probably cheaper to do it yourself. Mine worked out

Electric folding mirrors - why? pointless IMO.

Enables you to drive width resriction pole alot faster:thumbup:

Electric folding mirrors - not seen although unless you live in a street where space is tight the real question is, why? pointless IMO.

Also good in car parks - saves the mirrors from being knocked.

Just ordered my new vRS estate. I tried to order options above the initial list, i.e. upgraded audio but I was told I could not order these until middle of December. So because my boss insisted I got a order in asap because I should have ordered my car 3 months ago, I ordered the following;

Blue metallic - liked the colour

Dual climate/electric rear windows - why not

rear park sensors - save the bumper

18" alloys - look very good

cruise control - needed for my dodgy leg on long journeys

maxidot - it was a cheap option

no more options, cause I ran out of budget.

Still waiting for a delivery date.

Xenons - Didn't go for them. I'm sure they are very good but the std headlights

are good too and you can get Osram Silverstars for less than

Cheers for the tips everyone

Do you need to specify it as part of the maxi dot or does it automatically come with the controls ?

I think you could spec the maxidot on its own but if you wanted steering wheel audio controls you had to spec it with maxidot. Price for both was £140 although I think it's about £180 now. Still good value though.

The Elegance has the alarm as standard. It would be daft for Skoda not to make it standard on the vRS as just about every other manufacturer in the hot hatch market is doing it.

The Skoda Stream and Audience radios have line-in connections for hands free kits and provided your kit has a lineout (most bluetooth kits do), it integrates very well and you can adjust the volume via the radio etc. you need some Skoda connectors to do it right but it's worth it. I got the kit ans Skoda parts for abou £90 all in. The installer I was going to use wanted over £200 for it fitted.

ESP is standard on the Irish spec cars, as are the side airbags.

Climate and rear electric windows are an option in the uk.

I don't believe you can have a steering wheel with audio controls on for the RS either.

Irish spec, a lot more generous than UK spec!

It's always been that way mate. There was always a lot of importing of Jap cars etc down South which tended to be well specced with A/C etc even 10 years ago so I suppose the stiffer competition has kept the specs up. Not sure Uk motorist are worst off though.Gaff will keep me right here but from what i recall insurance and tax etc costs a bloddy fortune down there.

It's more expensive too. By my calculations that's

Thought Ireland had smaller wheels on the Mk 1 octavia.Don't know why.Not with the mk2 I presume.

Surprised people are quite happy to spend so much on extras (unless company is paying).

I dunno I was always under the impression that the Irish cars were de-specced due to our high VRT prices. Hence the reason a lot of UK people would buy cars here and bring them back home as we have a lower pre-VRT & Vat price. The road tax on the 2.0 T will be

A couple of things I noticed on the German spec list,

Door check ?

Zentralverriegelung with SAFE system inclusive. Radio remote maintenance with hinged key ?

Sounded disks miteingelasertem FIN code on each disk??

Is says theres electric windows in the back. Hopefully its the same everywhere.

See the Alloy wheel upgrade doesn't come with a Spare 18" Alloy wheel, its a Steel wheel:( .

black roof form sky with frame tunnel (is void with the option electrical sun roof) - I wonder do you just loose the tunnel part ?

Clifford Alarm - Can anyone explain the difference between Anti-Hijack and BlackJax ?

Anti-hijack activates the central locking to lock all the doors when the car reaches 5 mph. BlackJax involves keying in a code every time a door is opened. If the code is not keyed in within 30 seconds, the car will slow down and eventually come to a standstill with lights flashing and alarm siren going. :D

Works really well, although some insurance companies are funny about enabling BlackJax....

Door check is a little graphic of the car which comes up on the Maxidot and shows which doors are open including the boot and bonnet.

Safe system is the alarm/immobiliser and central locking system. Lots of settings. You can lower/raise the windows using the keyfob and i got the dealer to set my central locking up to autolock the doors once the car is moving for example.

You get those retractable keys. The flick type like Audi's have and there's a button on the remote to remotely pop the boot. Car locks again when you close the boot.

The tunnel on the ceiling runs right back into the rear on my elegance and I have 4 one touch up/down electric windows.

Cheers for that  , although the Octy 1 has a Anti-hijack feature on it, which just needs activation (I'd assume the same for the Octy 2)
