Dealer serviceing

Recommended Posts

I've just been quoted £139 for minor service + Air filter £29.10 + Pollen filter £22.08 + Fuel filter £50.34. This all adds up to a major service but the filters are replaced, rather than just replaced if necessary with a major service, which is more expensive.

£100 for 3 filters.......thats madness, does that include the labour to replace them or is that extra? I can service my car twice for £100 of parts & have some change left over....  :D

See here, this is the maximum you should pay...

Also never get the major service, the extras over the minor service (air, pollen and fuel filter) are only replaced "if required" which is at a given mileage or time. Even if your car doesn't require them the dealer will still charge you the £249 for a major service - cheeky gits.

Always go for the minor service and add the three filters from their menu price list - this is almost always cheaper than the major service and you know everything is being done.

The air filter and pollen filter are a very easy DIY though, literally all you need is a T20 screwdriver and your hands, the parts are readily available online.

This depends on which skoda dealer/sevice centre you use, my local one (Victoria Garage in Maud) are pretty good , I had a major service done there in September and was charged £199 instead of £259 because I did not need all the service parts.

Last year Blade, in Gloucester, charged me £200.72 for the major service although they had originally quoted the 'standard' £249 .

My car is now out of warranty so I shall ask a couple of independent VAG specialist garages to quote for my next service.  Currently on variable service intervals but, as my mileage has dropped from around 13K/annum to less than 9K, I will change to 10K/annual servicing.

I'm not happy with what I have had from the main dealer. The car was only half cleaned last time for example .  The point about minor service plus separate filters is good. But the pollen filter not changed when I asked for it to be done. Was not charged at least and an easy DIY job.

Various other niggles over the years.

A local more convenient garage is about the same cost as Skoda for a minor service but I also was not 100% happy with them.

I did try a  VW specialist a few years ago and may go to them again- now I have figured out the bus routes to get home- but they are a spit from the main dealer.

But remember a minor service is £139, this is basically an oil and oil filter change.

If they didn't replace all of the extra parts (pollen, air and fuel filters) what did you get for the extra £60?

Either you were ripped of a little less than if charged £259 or you got a great deal - all depends on what was changed.

+1 from me on that...ring your local Andrew Page motor factors and find out just how cheap the filters really are...they are Mann filters too, which you may find are the ones that Skoda fit !!!

Plus it's only a 10 minute job (maximum) to fit each one :)

I have just had a minor service at a main dealer and paid £139, on the invoice it lists the parts replaced which include the air and fuel filters and the pollen filter and oil, and there was no aditional charge for the parts. They also washed and valeted the car.

This would suggest that being charged extra for the filters is a rip off?

Might be a mistake. I don't see how they could make money when the engine oil alone is £50, with the cost of all the other bits the labour would have been free!.

Let us hope they keep making it then. :D

Open up the air filter lid, 6x T20 screws right on top of the engine bay.

Looking at the colour of the filter (and the date code) will give you an idea if they have done everything listed on the paperwork.

I too would be surprised if they have carried out a £249 service but only charged you £139.

GBP50 for engine oil?  Maybe 7 years back it was - not anymore.

If we are only paying £5 per litre (including delivery!)...

Then I'm sure the dealers are paying much, much less.

£139 is the Skoda fixed price servicing cost for a minor service including oil, oil filter, and pollen filter. So the  air filter and fuel filter were a bonus. Result!

That's interesting. There were only 3 items on the invoice relating to filters, namely "Cleaner" Filterelem" Pollenfilt", so I am guessing that the filter element must be oil, the cleaner is air cleaner, and pollen filter is obvious, so probably not the fuel filter which I would not have thought needed replacing anyway., so I got a free air filter replacement. Better than nothing, and as I said before the car was washed and valeted also so very good service in my opinion.

I know lots of people on here are thinking "Why pay a dealer good money to do something as easy as a simple service, expecially on a not very new car?"

However most of them are probably not in their 70s with arthritic joints!!!

The £139 does not include the pollen filter (in the same way the £259 service does not include the pollen, air or fuel filters), so double bonus!

Bought my 60 pre reg 2ltr diesel estate in feb 2011 with 9 miles on clock.

Also bought the extended service plan for a little over £300 to cover next three services.

Because we do low mileage we opted for time based service option.

As the vehicle is almost at required time for service I checked the service record filled in by the main dealer in Newcastle.

I was shocked to find that so far neither the air filter or the pollen filter are listed as having been changed.

I have in the last ten minutes checked the pollen filter and it was absolutely choked with debris so will be checking the air filter in the morning.

I have lost faith in these people as I cannot trust them to carry out the correct checks and procedures.

I have just ordered Mobil ESP 5-30 and all filters (MAHLE) from OPIE at a delivered price of £60.

It would appear that the recent VW ethos is percolating down to the dealers also

Just had 5th 60k service on my 2013 mk2 from Benfield Skoda in Harrogate (major) service £188,

Minor service (10k, 30k, 50k)usually about £140 ish,

Only grip was 18months ago they recommended wiper blades (which i declined) that I am still using today, 35k miles later.

Overall no complaints on price or work done. Plus full authorised dealer stamps in service book
