Spare wheel with 17" alloys

Featured Replies

I'd like a spare wheel for my Yeti (2014 170 4x4) but the only kit I can find is this one.

I've got 17s on and the rolling radius will obviously be different but will the cause an issue or damage the 4x4 system?

I was also wondering about just buying another alloy and (somehow) making up my own spare arrangement.

Cheers

Its a genuine Skoda fit wheel and false floor. Same as supplied with mine as an option when purchased with my new car. Depends if you want the whole kit and false floor, or just a wheel I guess.

Yes that was something I had though about but hadn't measure it to check. Cheers

The 16 & 17in wheels have very similar rolling radius with the standard tyres, this spare kit will be fine as its supplied on 4x4 models with 16 & 17in tyres.

Feed the two tyre sizes into a tyre comparison website and you will see that there is only about 2.5% difference in rolling radius - not enough to cause problems - though I guess it may trip the tyre pressure monitor system - if fitted.

I bought a 17" alloy spare when I got my 4x4, I just keep it on the boot floor lashed to a couple of the tie down points. If you don't mind losing a bit of boot space it's ok, if I need more I just put one or all of the rear seat backs down.

If you just want a spare you can get a 17" steel or 16"  of very similar rolling diameter at a good price from here:- https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/

You can also buy one of these if you want to keep it the boot. I used one for storing the spare on my last car for 10 years:-. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10056770/

My winter tyres are 215/60 R 16 on steel rims, These are probably the nearest to 225/50 R 17, the differences are negligible.

It's a genuine Skoda spare wheel kit as supplied with both the 2WD and 4WD versions. Why would Skoda supply a spare wheel which would damage the Haldex? The difference in rolling radius cf the standard 17" wheels is within the range which the Haldex is designed to accommodate.
