Bi Xeno condensation problem...how can i do?

Featured Replies

Good evenings folks!

I own a brand new superb III wagon (combi), active model with bixeno outfitting......

I have a problem....today i saw a condensation mark at the base of the projector.....http://i63.tinypic.com/2l8ya2g.jpg

How can i do?

The manual says it can be normal but I do not want to condensation inside the headlights....it is not normal about my opinion!

Any ideas?

I believe it's normal. Mine does exactly the same on occasion.

its normal, my Audi is the same. That is why the headlight has a small tube at the bottom to allow the moisture out. Its caused by the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the headlamp, a normal Halogen bulb helps by heating the inside of the lamp to keep it dry, but a xenon bulb does not get that hot so in high humidity cannot keep the inside dry. Do NOT block the little drain tubes otherwise the moisture will never get out.

The headlights are not sealed units, so as per the manual a little moisture is normal.

On picking up my new Superb SEL Exec, got home and parked up, looking around the car as you do when you first get it, I also noticed condensation with the front light housing, around the Day Time LED Running Light Area, it does eventually go, but like you I thought whats going on.

It is the same with mine Superb.

Same on all three of my cars.

Mine too. Does it affect the performance of the lights?

Its doesnt do anything to the light except to projector the projectoc glass getting foggy over the time cause condensation gets in the housing and heat burns the condensation to projector glass...strange that engineers didnt come up the idea to avoid that...one year old car and projector headlight lens look like a ****...look close your lens and youll see how foggy they are from inside!

on my old car passat B5 i took hole housing off....removed projector from housing..took apart projector...cleaned the glass with isopropyl alcohol and put together....that was 5-6 hour job....

Hello friends .... condensation appeared again!

I called Skoda Service but they told me that this is normal....it's normal! Condensation (or Water) into the projector is normal! Oh my god! It's unbelievable! :(

However I would like to ask one more thing : my superb is an active model and the LED tailights doesn't working on the hatch (ok...i don't have the light pack because skoda doesn't permit this optional in active variant)
So i would know if it possible to turn it on (is the led disconnected or I have to reprogram the ECU?)

How can i do?

Thank you very much!

If you do not have working led rear lights you will not be able to turn them on as they do not exist.

I understand.

But for the future can I install them simply installing a led? Or not?

Thank you!

I, too, am disappointed to get a flagship L&K and have the lights fogged up from day one. Gutted to find you lot are reporting its normal. i was going to leave it a few months and if it hadnt gone request full replacement under warranty!!! got in yesterday after a carwash and 50% of the lights are obscured in fog and condensation. Never did this on 2 x SuperbII`s. this cannot be acceptable, surely?

It happens on my wife's Octavia, which are bi-Zenons, it dries up once the lights are turned on & heat up.

Same on our Superb...

Mine's the same was going to complain about it but if it says this will happen in the manual I guess there is no point!

Certainly stated in the manual as 'normal' behaviour and our BMWs have done and do do it, as did our Mini. As said above, these units are not sealed so condensation is inevitable.

I had one but replaced under warranty after it completely fogged up but that was on the grounds that as it was fully fogged it affected the lighting.

I'm sure the old standard glass fronted lights never really suffered from this in the way the modern plastic ones do.

However I would like to ask one more thing : my superb is an active model and the LED tailights doesn't working on the hatch (ok...i don't have the light pack because skoda doesn't permit this optional in active variant)

Condensation in headlight and fog light clusters is normal, it is even referenced in the manual.

It affects brand new cars and recently purchased cars more as they are sat around for prolonged periods of time without use.

Whether that be outside the factory, at the docks, on the train, on the ferry, on the dealers forecourt, on the drive over Christmas. If the weather is wet and the car is constantly damp then you will get condensation.

Xenon headlights still get warm enough to dry out the inside of the lens so if this is a problem try driving with the lights one to dry them out, although as has been mentioned it is the difference in temperature outside and inside that can cause the issue in the first place so a bit of experimenting might be required.

As per Silver's (and others) comments , condensation in headlamps is a natural occurrence in damp weather, :rain: and most manufacturers will not change units under warranty.

Even if they did , the same would occur with the replacement almost immediately.

Xenon lights especially, generate considerable heat internally and therefore have to be vented to the atmosphere.

When they are switched off and cooling down, they are ingesting damp atmospheric air via the vent , which causes moisture to accumulate inside on the coldest part of the assembly .

This should disappear next operation within approx 90 mins of constant use, if not, the unit may have a leak which is causing excessive internal condensation to occur, which the heat generated by the Xenon burner and internal control unit cannot overcome, and which may well be a warranty issue.

Normally both headlamps exhibit similar levels of condensation.

Do not be tempted to cover the light over while switched on to dry out as I have seen others do.... :peek:
