Good evening.

 

To order or not to order, that is the the question I wish to ask your advice on. I am on the verge of signing on that dotted line for the grandest motor I have ever had the privilege to be able to order (and will likely ever will be able to again). 

 

So, it looks like this:

 

SE L Executive Estate.

2.0TDI 150 Manual.

Business Grey with leather interior.

18" Pegasus Alloys.

 

Extra Equipment

Options I want but either cannot afford (together), justify or feel they don't add enough compared to their cost:

 

£950      Smart light Assist with Lane Assist and BSP    - I do want lane assist and BSP, but they alone are £850 which is very steep indeed for what they offer. The Smart lights for another £100 I would pay for just because. 

£765      Integrated Tow Bar   - I want but do not think I will get enough use out of it in the 5 years (min) I plan on keeping this.

£600      CANTON    - its expensive and I want it although I have never thought the standard systems in my 4 Skodas so far "Bad". It all comes down to the money as always.  This is the most likely addition to my order at this moment.

£650      19 Phoenix alloys.

 

Options I need advice on as I think are standard or could be switched on with VCDS:

Light Assist with HBA   -  Should be VCDS codeable 

Auto Hold      -   My Octavia VRS has hill hold, whats the difference as I can do without this option but would like to know what it does first. Also, if it uses the ABS system then it should be able to be turned on with VCDS.

Traffic Assist   -  Could be codeable, and if it would be nice if free but not necessary.

 

So everyone, what would you drop or add from those options above only?

 

Your advice would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't have heated washer nozzles, SmartGate, Media Command, Rear backrest release, colour Maxi Dot, and sunblinds. That's £585. But that's merely my opinion.

 

Auto Hold i think is only standard on DSG cars.

Hill Hold is standard on DSG. Autohold should be standard on all new Superb's thanks to the electronic handbrake.

Hill Hold holds the brake for a few seconds on inclines to help pulling off on hills without rolling.

Autohold enables the hydraulic brakes so you can sit at a traffic light etc without needing your foot on the brake or having to pull up the manual handbrake. It also, when auto hold is enabled and you've arrived at your destination, allows you to switch off the ignition (manually or automatically via stop/start) and then just open the driver's door and simply leave the car as the Auto Hold system automatically switches to the permanent handbrake hold (a Red (P) symbol on the dials as opposed to a Green (P) symbol which indicates Autohold's temporary engagement of the hydraulic brakes).

So to answer your question, if Hill Hold Assist did very little for your Octy then don't spec it. But even more helpfully, Hill Hold Assist has almost always been an easy one with VCDS so definitely don't spec it! Just wait for one of the VCDS guru's to discover the coding to enable it on the new Superb's MQB platform.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the rear side air bags but I can see where peace of mind comes into play, especially if you have kids which I'm guessing you have with the ISOFIX and sunblinds addition. I would put comfort ahead of the many assistance systems that are available and there is a point where we should be using our driving skills anyway as opposed to relying on the car so I wouldn't go for lane assist. You need to consider comfort as a factor with the 19" wheels as they will be a 40 profile and will impact on ride quality. I would try go for the Canton if the budget allowed but what you never had you never miss really and you mention that you are happy with the standard system.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I've not spec'd some of the fulffy stuff.

Are you 100% on this as I only really need the rear ones. SWMBO is a good driver so front sensors may be a waste if the rears are standard. I cannot find that anywhere though so if you have proof pls show me where.

I would not be happy if I ordered the car minus sensors and discovered it came with none otherwise. That would really screw me over.

I have kids so rear airbags are a defo, CANTON not req but would be a nice to have for a keeper. Media and Smartgate, for the few times I might use it why not.

Rear seat release and colour maxi-dot again I can live without, but as this is a keeper I am inclined to spec them for comforts / prettiness sake.

Yes rear sensors are standard from the SE upwards.

 

L&K gains front & rear as standard, £350 option elsewhere.

Clearly shown in the brochure that rear sensors are standard on SE and SEL. Option for front and rear simply adds the front ones. It' a bit like the electric seats. Driver is standard but passenger requires the full option for SE and SEL.

Means that you pay £350 for the front sensors and either £1000 (SE) or £550 (SEL) for the electric passenger seat !!!!!!!! Crazy world the automotive industry.

Front and rear parking sensors - personally I would choose the park assist as the extra sensors in the wheel arches are useful when getting into tight gaps ... park assist will also get into a smaller gap than I would attempt!

LED package plus - YES!! a small price to pay for a big difference at night

ISOFIX on front passenger seat - not for me I prefer kids seats to be in the rear

SmartGate - I think it will be a gimmick 

Media Command - why would I want my rear passengers messing with the settings!   

Rear backrest release from boot - I did think about them but for the amount of times they would be useful I can just as easy open the rear doors to fold the seats down

Colour Maxi DOT trip computer - without a doubt yes... much nicer looking than the B&W std maxidot

 

If they had not been std then I would have added:

 

Electric seats... for the additional lumbar adjustment alone

 

But I would not pay extra for:

TV Tuner

KESSY

Canton

Which is no different to the MKII Superb, but with 235 tyres the sidewall will actually be a little taller than on the MKII’s 225’s

When I ordered my SEL-exec we was going to order the rear blinds but when I looked at the sunset glass I decided that the blinds were not needed. so you might want to think about it when you go and look at the car.
