Buying MkII Octavia TDI Estate

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Further to my similar topic in the MkI Forum  (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/375534-basic-info-on-mk1-octavia-estate/), we're widening the search into newer cars and therefore the MkII is now on the table...

I'm not really up to speed with the TDI engine specs on these cars - we're probably looking at a 140 or a VRS at 170....

What are the engine codes for these units so I can do some further research..?

Any pointers would be useful.

Cheers,

Ryan

Engine codes can be referenced here:

http://vag-codes.info/files/engines/skoda-engines.pdf

BKD and BMM are PD140 engines (the BMM being the 8V SOHC engine fitted to the 4x4 and Scout models with DPF's (Diesel Particulate Filters), the BKD being the 16V DOHC non-DPF engine).

CFHC is the newer CR140 engine.

BMN is the older PD170 engine in the vRS (with problematic DPF).

CEGA is the newer CR170 engine in the later vRS.

Looking at the PD 140 and 170 - CR170 is likely to be out of the price range, and if not too many miles....

What are the cambelt intervals on the PD engines?

Just to throw a slight curveball......how about the 1.9PD (BKC/BXE) with a stage 1 remap? Same 140bhp as the 2litre but with a bit more economy (helpful if claiming back mileage costs) and seems to be a little more reliable than the early 2.0 engines.

Are they the 105 bhp engines?

If so most of the cars I'm looking at have the 140 engines (L&K spec) or 170 engines (VRS).

All the toys don't seem to filter down to other specs - although I've seen a few Elegance models with reverse sensors and leather....  cant be too hard to get a sat nav unit fitted I suppose..?

Thanks Mike.

Useful stuff re the sat nav.

How easy is it to get the Xenons retro fitted - are they plug and play (save the self levelling)?

I'm also looking at buying a MkII Octavia, most likely a 2.0TDI with the plan to remap in the future.

I've got my eye on an 05 with 120k miles on the clock. Is an early 140PD likely to have more issues than a later one? I know it's worth checking the cylinder head as some had porous heads (hopefully it'll have been changed) but is there anything else to look out for?

I noticed that the road tax on the 05, 55, 06 and some 56 cars is different to the later ones, and that the CO2 output is slightly higher on the earlier models (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/advice/road-tax-guide/skoda/octavia/estate-2005/29719/). Does anyone know why the CO2 output changed? Did Skoda make mechanical changes?

Sorry to hijack the thread, there didn't seem much point in starting a new one!

CO2 is also affected by spec so check the reg with dvla if unsure of the tax band

Thanks for all your help on this, I got hold of one yesterday - all the kit bar Sat Nav (and after driving an '07 with the OEM option fitted, I see what you mean about basic).  So we may retro fit a newer sat nav at a later date when funds allow.

I'll start a new thread on the car to keep track of it as a record.  First impressions are good, it picks up well (2.0 PD), then lacks a bit of the oomphf I'm used to from the Passat (2.5 V6 TDI), gave decent mileage on the return trip (57. something mpg).  seemed a bit loud with road noise, but I think it is a combination of the tyres and that I had the rear seats down (I hope).

Cheers all Ryan
