Brilliant design and pointless things

Featured Replies

Side vents on an Aston Martin.Years old but brilliant.I do like BMW's shark fin aerial.Nice idea.

As for the useless stuff, bloomin keless entry, cards that you slot in the dash and a start button.Pointless in my view. Some like it.

Anything you think car manufacturers have done well (even if the car is bad!) and things that are downright rubbish.

The boot in my car is rubbish, but then that is to be expected. I never use it and when i popped to M&S earlier i put the shopping in behind my seat. I forgot about it and after a spirited drive home i found that it had spilled out everywhere :o

i like:

The renault card-key

self dimming interior mirrors.

The entire Ferrari F430

pointless things:

BMW M6

Remember the cup holder fad? or the days when fog lights were optional extras?

Rain sensing wipers ..........are rubbish idea

Must have a thing about wipers!

Auto head lights are a good idea.

The buzzer that buzzes when you get out of the car and the lights are still on..

bloody annoying, but rather useful if you wish to drive your car away without needing a jump start.

Dammit small print of car things...

Brilliant = XM suspension had to be a passenger on non smooth roads to believe.

They are brilliant for when I pull in front and dump a litre of screen wash on to middle lane hogs though.

or the days when fog lights were optional extras?

They still are for some manufactures

Brilliant Designs-

Alfa Romeos + TVR's disguised door handles

Jenna Jamiesons Boobs

Pointless Designs-

Fiat Multipla style Bug eyes

Crotchless pants

Good/Brilliant Design : the alloy wheels on the concept Skyline GTR - actually vented/channelled cold air onto the brakes......

Bad/Pointless : French Cars.

AND ANOTHER THING: Female sociologists who can't see anything apart from potential case studies in everyone.:finger:

I like using these :)

One of the most amazingly "designed" things is the human body! :D

Chris

the cyncical streak in my would just like to point out the "useless" elements......like, oh, i dunno.....the appendix?

and there are bits of my body that don't get used at all, so might as wel be useless..............

good things

Diesel hot hatches

pointless things

petrol versions of the bmw 1xxi

petrol versions of the bmw 1xxi

Upcoming 130 with 265bhp did get a decent write-up in Evo though.

Pointless thing - the 'Other' category on eBay. Some of the most pointless tact in there known to man. Go in there if you're REALLY REALLY bored :)

Brilliant : Ford's quickclear front windscreen

Poop: Octavia's rear flood hatch.

Brilliant: The way you set the intermittent interval on Ford wipers of recent times.

Pointless: A class merc.

Chris

Brilliant - ditto the heated front windscreen on a frosty morning Royston.

Pointless - Mercedes R Class, Renault Avantime

Brilliant:

National Lottery/Cigarettes/Booze - the perfect way to tax the poor without them even knowing.

VW 1.4 GT engine super+ turbo charged with little weight.

Crap ideas:

cars without cruise control - will never buy another just wastes fuel and increases risk of points - as most modern cars are more than capable of drifting 5-6mph w/o you noticing.

nose heavy performance cars that are a prone to understeer (sorry VW but you are the kings - RS4 excepting which proves at least your are learning slowly).

Brilliant = XM suspension had to be a passenger on non smooth roads to believe.

I would entirely agree with that. Had one a while back and is still the best ride ever. Smooth but not wallowy. Trouble was it cost an absolute fortune to fix when it went wrong, which, being a Citroen, often happened
