Lollipop rollback

Featured Replies

Help needed please :hi:

Sony Xperia M2, updated to Android Lollipop a few weeks ago and to be honest, it's pants! Battery life has taken a nosedive, I hate the new interface

the camera resolution has plummeted (noted on a few blogs) and I can't handle it anymore :D

Not due an upgrade for ~ 6 months and a new phone isn't an option at the mo.

I know there's a few Android buffs out there so, does anyone know of a simple step-by-step guide to roll back from Lollipop to KitKat or even Jellybean?

Many thanks,

Lee.

I'd be looking on xda developers, there's bound to be a how to.

Same phone and situation here, it's doing my nut. This was such a great work phone that I could happily use all day.

Think of them like Yeti owners, but a lot younger.

Welsh then? I'll have another look right now in a minute :)

Oh no Lee don't do it... You'll break it!!! ;)

Usually you can use the phones recovery mode and an image of the ROM to wipe the phone and reload a different version of the OS. I dont know the specifics for your phone though.

I my case it was a matter of downloading the ROM into the phones root directory and selecting it using the update service.

I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about Lollipop, perhaps that is why Xiaomi are still sticking with 4.4.x as the foundation for their latest version of MIUI (v7).

Lee, before you do...

I thought the same on my x1, it was dire.

Do you have the google search box on the home screen?

If so, hide it, IIRC tap and hold on it, then there is an option to remove/hide. Or it's under settings, it's a while back, google it, "google now removal android" ;)

Reboot phone and enjoy.

It won't fix all the issues, but responsiveness in any app, and speed will be restored along with battery life.

1st step is wipe the cache partition from within recovery.

It's amazing what this fixes

well, thought I'd try a Factory reset; it's reset alright,,,,,,,, all the bloody inbuilt apps I'd removed have reappeared along with,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Lollipop :D

I mistakenly thought it'd reset to it's original state, ie that in which it left the factory. FML

Er, Ben mate :D

I can't even delete/ remove these bloody Amazon apps now, not even remove them from the screen by tapping and dragging to remove.

:finger: Lollipop

Is there a Marshmallow ROM yet? If so it's much much better than lollipop.

Most of the hates in Lollipop can easily be switched off - like grouping apps and Web pages together.

Smart lock is brilliant though.

no idea, mate :( I've never rooted n tooted or ROM'd a phone before. Knowing my luck I'd brick it :D

I've only ever updated when I've received an update from Sony. The update aside, I'd never get another Sony anyway. Total carp lol

Might phone up Nothing Nowhere and see when my contract's up. Then go with BT Mobile and their rather generous employee deal ;)

Yeah, I know they use the NN network but the price

Root it and dump a custom Marshmallow ROM

nothing nowhere is about to join the BT death star anyway

I had huge problems with a Sony - ended up threatening to sue them if they didn't give me a total refund.

Took the resulting payout and bought a motorola - amazingly good phones. Highly recommended

Don't know about you, but mines improved with time since the update.

Apart from the sat navigation, which is still poor.

Have you checked to make sure GPS is working?? I have had two issues with mobiles and satnav; on one the GPS chip was dead on arrival and on the other a system update had switched it off AND removed the icon to switch it on again. In both cases the satnav program was using 3g masts and wifi info to plot where I was, which meant it ran about 100M BEHIND where I was on the road, and kept showing me driving across fields etc, as without the GPS lock it is far too inaccurate.
