Condensation

Featured Replies

My 10 year old fabia was dreadful for condensation now my Citigo is the same. Takes 10 mins to get windscreen clear. Are all Skoda/vw cars like this?.

Turn ac on. Takes 1 minute.

It took 10 mins and still wasn't clear when I set off.

Have you got that sliding vent knob thingy set to fresh or recirculate the air?

Now the rainy weather has arrived my wife's care has the same problem.

I'd be interested to find out if other people have this problem as well.

This shouldn't be happening, it took my wife's old fiesta over 15 years to develop a condensation problem.

Now when the the frost comes this condensation will freeze on the inside window, which is even more of a problem!

You can pick up some (I can't remember the damn name) demister bag things that basically absorb the condensation so your screens are clear for the morning, one on the dash one on the parcel shelf then bung them in the airing cupboard during the day to dry out, problem solved

It was open up to the left but I remember being told to switch to recirculate air and close the air vents when getting out the car in my old fabia.

My Citigo is two and a half years old and doesn't have a condensation problem...probably because it's garaged when not being used. I think the condensation problem mainly affects cars that are outside 24/7. They get damp inside (one way or another), they are parked in the Winter sun which causes all the interior moisture to vaporise, the temperature drops quickly when the sun disappears and all the water vapour condenses on the coldest part ie windscreen and rear-window glass.

(When we had two Fabias Mk1, it was the one parked outside that had the condensation problem - the garaged one was fine. Swap the cars round and the problem swapped round, too. Hence my above theory.)

....and should have said that silica gel desiccant bags DO help considerably with the problem...but you need large ones. The silly 200gm size are useless.

In my Citigo I keep a pillowcase filled with colour-indicating silica gel, which I put in the oven once a year or so to recharge. I think there's about 5Kg of the stuff, from a big box which I bought a few years ago on eBay.

Condensation is fine most of the time, with the exception of days where it's the "perfect storm" of circumstances - dark, very high outdoor humidity levels, raining, and hot. I'm sure my old Swift didn't have much of a problem, but the Citigo needs the A/C turned on to clear it - it's just rather awkward when I need to put it on cool to reduce the temperature on hot days, which in turn increases the buildup of moisture on the inside, until the A/C can ramp up enough to blow out enough low-humidity air, by which point there's a thick layer of moisture on the inside of the windscreen which takes a few minutes to clear.

Normally I just open the window for the first 5mins of any journey, regardless of how cold I am, but obviously I can't do that if it's raining. Nor can I open the window if there's any water on top of the car, because as soon as I open the window and go around a corner, a stream of water will flow onto the door handle & button area, risking electrical problems in the future.

Check for damp carpets. Get any leaks sorted and then dehumidify the interior thoroughly.

Damp in the boot was a big problem on the early MX-5s. I used a 1kg dry-bag in the boot to prevent damp during the autumn/winter seasons. Dry the granules on a tray in the oven every three months or so.

A/C is not just for summer, use it regularly through the year to keep the PAG oil circulated and to stop the seals from drying out and failing. The Citigo has a small cabin with a large glass area. Steaming up inside when it's cold and wet outside is inevitable.

not possible mate.

Parents dont have sex. Never have, and never will.

We all know that, surely.

I think the problem comes from damp floor wells normally passenger rear put your hand on the carpet will probably be wet from leaking doors seals it's a nightmare

Even on a brand new car?
