Benefits of lowering?

Featured Replies

I have a few questions on lowering...mainly what are the benefits of lowering a fabia vrs? It definetely looks better, but what else will it do.

Will it affect the warrenty?

Which is the best to go for and is it expensive to buy/fit?

Thanks,

Pix :P

Lowers centre of gravity, reduces body roll and stops pitching and diving under braking/acceleration :D

Technically invalidates warranty.......

Best to go for depends how hard core you want to go and how big a budget you have! ;) I went for some Eibach springs and dampers and was extremely happy with them. Some have gone for springs alone on standard dampers, and some have gone for fully adjustable coilovers.....

So basically what you are saying Chris is that it improves the handling?

and some have gone for fully adjustable coilovers.....

Chris

Like meeeeee - super stiff so body roll is practically nil - helps with nose dive under braking too. Just keeps the car stable (on smooth roads lol)

Everything Chris says is the case, so I won't repeat.

By far and above the most important benefit is that it looks cool

Secondly the car will handle better - althougth don't think you can just drop a car and it will magically become a Formula 1 car - suspension is a science, to the extent where people write books on the subject :)

Not even signed up and planning mods - Way to go Girl!!! :P :D

Car's not clean enough Josh. :P ;)

Off Topic, I know, but you should see it now :( I really need to wash it (and it was washed by some Polish bloke in London on Sunday too!)

I found it helped braking with the car not diving.

And I agree, Josh you should have washed the car before taling that picture.:D

You thought oem braking nosedive was bad too eh? :thumbdwn: coilovers sorted that right out for me. I just mentally try and think in my head that the less "wobbling" and movement of the suspension under duress the better for general stability? Might not be the case.

Where's one of these suspension essays then? I could to with a time filler over the weekend.

We should probably start a winter 'dirty' picture thread again :P

And marvel at just how filthy the back of a small diesel hatchback can get  I'd love to see some Skoda aerodynamics drawings for it, as EVERYTHING seems to just get plastered to the tailgate :thumbdwn:

Anyway sorry for the  - I'd summarize the benefits as looks and a worthwhile improvement in handling. Those are the reasons a a set of Eibach springs are on my shopping list anyway

It's because you have a straight tail pipe on the exhaust ;) Get the turned down one off the other diesel Fabias and marvel at the lack of soot on the boot

Chris

Even that won't solve the fact that the boot lid is covered in allsorts that's come off the road though :P

I actually resorted to cleaning the numberplate on it's own this morning before I left - 50 miles later and the darn thing is invisible again. Tend to clean the light clusters daily at the moment anyway, but this car is by a LONG shot the worst on getting dirt on it's booty :( - must order those mudflaps LOL

Josh that was clean in my book :o

So, i want to improve the handling as that what seems to be most owners niggle aswell as body roll. Lowering seems to be what i need to do.

Anyone fancy answering my other questons? Mainly, what the heck do i get and how much is it gonna cost me?

Eibachs are the more common setup. Prices from the Jabba Group Buy were

Springs - £167.10(RRRP) - £125.31(discounted) - £228.81(fitted)

Dampers - £387.50(RRRP) - £289.51(discounted) - £412.38(fitted)

Spring/dampers £538.20(fitted)

As you can see the fitting is quite expensive because of the time taken so if you know someone who can do it for you for less then you'll save.

A SEAT MOMO strut brace is also a nice upgrade for handling and pretty cheap too.
