Main dealer cambelt and water pump change cost?

Featured Replies

I've had a quote of £560 so far. Is this a correct quote for a vrs diesel coming up to its 5 year change?

I've seen a few fixes price servicing offers for cambelt at around £399. The extra £160 for the Water pump seemed a little expensive to me as its all off anyway!

Another £160 for the pump sounds a lot. the usual fee was another £50-60.

I had mine done at an indy for £320 but that was a while back now.

Water pumps are around £50 plus there shouldn't be much labour as it's all in the same area of the cam belt change.

i just had mine done privatly for a 1.9 tdi - belt kit was around £80, water pump was £30 after surcharge for genuine bits.

Add £20 for coolant and £10 for thermostat (i find that thermostats go soon after water pump changes - then you loose the coolant you added when changing!)  i paid £150 for the labour.

Thanks for the fixed servicing menu. I'm keen to keep the skoda MD history going even though I know a great specialist!

Yes, £459 I would be much happier with!

You need ask for the fixed price deal as lot of dealerships try to pretend it doesn't exist and quote you on the higher price.

Got one at Sparshatts, so it's going there for £459.

Thanks all for your input.

Where did the quote for £560 come from, was this not a Skoda main dealer?

If it was were they not willing to charge the Skoda fixed prices?

Yes Meadens skoda. I didn't have the fixed prices to hand.

Them plucking high figures out of the air straight away doesn't sit too well anyway.

How can the dealers justify charging an extra £100 to replace the water pump on an Octavia on their fixed priced service plan ... the pump can't cost more than £50 off them and as everything is stripped it's surely a 15 minute job to swap it over

Tops for a cambelt and pump think its bout £250 - £300 mark.
I supplied the cambelt and pump to the garage I use all the time. Went through 2 new pumps - the garage thinks it was a faulty batch though.

I've managed to get mine done for 220 all in :)

But not sharing where and by who!?

Why? It just shows the owner did and paid what the dealer told them to. As long as the car has been serviced properly, it doesn't really matter where. Also along the same lines, receipts for services showing actual work done are more important than stamps in the service book (which you can buy pre-stamped on ebay anyway).

Also at 5 years old you've now just dropped out of the parameters set by Skoda UK for any 'goodwill gesture' in the event of an out-of-warranty claim.

Go to a trusted independent and save some cash.

Got it done by a mates garage for cash in leeds :)

Is it a bad job to tackle at home? Surprised no one has suggested it although the consequences for getting it wrong is quite scary!!
