PS4 vs Xbox One

Featured Replies

I've got an Xbox 360 but for Christmas I'm thinking of getting a new gen console. I can't decide which to get, both offer the same games (apart from no Forza on PS4)

My best mate is going Xbox and my brother has gone ps4...

Any fors/againsts for either?

I went PS4 because I was in the Sony ecosystem anyway (PS1, PS2 and PS3 before it). But with my PS3 I often felt a 360 would have been a better choice, almost entirely because that's what most of my friends had - which was never a problem until online games became so prolific.

Now I'm very happy I chose a PS4 as pretty much everyone I know went Playstation over Xbox. Tech-wise there's very little in it. So go for whichever has the exclusives you want or that you have the most friends on would be my advice.

I'm going for Xbone when I upgrade next year.

The huge thing for me is DLNA streaming which the Xbone will do but the PS4 sucks at it (according to various mates anyway).

I'm in both MS and Sony ecosystems so that's not an issue for me (got 360 and PS3).

Have you tried both controllers for any period of time? I tend to find the MS controllers more comfortable for long sessions so that's another factor for me.

Also MS have now started backwards compatibility so a bunch of 350 games are now playable on Xbone (plus any that are in Games With Gold going forwards).

See if you can have a go on both and go with whichever you feel you like the best!

I've got both. Xbox all day for me. Better games, better controller, better system in my opinion.

If you have lots of friends on one system and none on the other, then that's probably the one to go for.

Other than that, there are decent exclusives on each system - again if either of those are essential for you, there's your decision.

When it comes to cross platform games, the PS4 version performs better than the XBone on nearly every title - the hardware is very similar in design and easy to compare, with the PS4 having the advantage.

There is very little difference in the controllers if you ignore the usual internet ranting but this is easy for you compare in person.

We have both consoles and the PS4 is the better machine IMO.

I have both machines and would still choose the Xbox one over the ps4 anyday, mainly because I have more friends on Xbox, I also prefer the Xbox controller over the ps controller and I prefer Xbox live over PlayStation network.

Pretty sure I'm the only person in the world that hates the XBox controller and far prefers the PS4 dualshock. Really can't stand using the Microsoft pad.

One thing to think about is size too. The Xbox One is a hefty machine as well as the massive block on the power cable...

I went from Xbox 360 to PS4. Its much of a muchness really i think, they both are great machines.

all boils down to would you rather play with your best mate or your brother?? ha.

I was in the same boat last year (January sales!)

In the end I went for the PS4. I had been reading some details about them both and it seemed that the PS4 actually made better use of the hardware allowing full 60fps in all games whereas the Xbox one was capped at 30fps in some games. Can't remember why now though.

Plus I had £60 of PSN vouchers from when I bought a Sony phone a couple of years ago so thought it made sense to use them.

I like the PSN subscription and the free monthly games.

Me n me son love forza horizon so it had to be Xbox 1

Prefer the controller too but might get a ps4 at some point when there's a good deal on

PS4 all the way for me.

Never really forgave Microsoft for the Xbox 360 3 red rings of death fiasco (had 2 die on me!) The PS3 that's the same age is still going strong..

Never had any hardware faults on my PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 (all worked perfectly since purchased, my PS1 is 20 years old now!!!! I'm only 26!!!  :o  :o  :o )

Both machines are capped at 30fps in Fallout 4 at least. But the internetpeople claims that the ps4 suffers less from fps drops compared to the xb1.

I had the same decision to make last year but went with the PS4 as i knew more people on there. I've always had Playstation until the PS3, when i went with a 360. I did like the XBox controllers and worried about the PS4 controllers being too small but i got used to it and now the 360 controller feels too chunky in comparison. You will always have fanboys of a certain system, so the decision comes down to who are you likely to play online with more, your friends or your brother, as both do pretty much offer the same things. Something to bare in mind though, if you're a COD fan, the new maps will be released on Playstation before XBox gets a sniff.

Ps4 all the way. Streams everything. Nice and fast. And doesn't look like a vhs player.

Also had X360, and went over to PS4. Quicker at updating, more powerful looks better, stream Spotify while playing games and easier to upgrade the HDD. ;)

Plus having a PS all those years ago needs must. :)

Where did you get the Nifnaf sticker made??

I went xbone....probably a bit naive but I've always been xbox. Trying to convince myself that I don't need the new elite..........

I was Xbox360 but switched to the PS4 - not regretted it at all

Installed it all this morning. OMFG! Graphics are immense. Had a quick play of COD with zombies and then onto FIFA 16...I'm pants at football games but managed to score. The share button on the controller is pretty cool. Straight upload to YouTube..

Oh and what's with the different coloured lights on the top of the controller? Maybe I should rtfm....

RTFM?

Oh and to answer your question: If you have multiple controllers, each will light a different color for ID with the camera. During some games, the color will change to reflect what is happening in game. Like on Sparkle 2, the color will change to match the ball color in the chamber. In Killzone, it goes red, yellow, green, to indicate your health level. The developers can program the colors to work with their games if they want.

Good when playing GTA have 4 different characters they have their own colour which changes on the controller and also when in a police chase it flashes red/blue

I've always had Xbox but opted for a ps4 last year. All of my mates decided to go with the ps4 so didn't really have much choice...

But to be honest. I really like the ps. Beautiful looking machine. A lot smaller than the Xbox too. I didn't think I'd like the controller having spent so many years playing Xbox but I've gotten used to it now.

Having just parted company with my entire 360 set up i'm not torn what to do.

I am leaning towards Xbox simply because probably 90% of my 360 time was spent playing Forza games, but all i seem to hear are PS4 fans.

The tech/apps etc i'm not bothered about as I've got a NUC mini PC plugged in for all my media needs so it's literally just a games console.

Xbox live with 4 free games a month (now they've made 360 titles backwards compatible) is bonus and almost justifies the ~£40 a year on its own.

That said my internet speed often struggles to hit 2MBps is that going to be a problem online?

I never had problems on 360 but i'd guess there's a lo more data to be sent & received on a next gen machine.

Hmm i'm off to browse eBay.

i need a Kinect-less 500GB console with a single controller to keep cost on the floor but as many games as i can get and including at least 1 Forza title.

Don't ask for much do I?!
