Another tyre thread

Featured Replies

This is my first Yeti, 170 Elegance, 4x4, tyres are Pirelli Cinturato P7 as supplied on delivery.

The odometer is approaching 13k miles, the car has been driven sympathetically showing av mpg of circa 52 mpg.

Going on the law, ie a min of 1.6 mm across the central three quarters all the way around the full circumference, I reckon the tyres are good for another maybe 2k miles, seems to be heavy wear, the wear pattern is absolutely ok ie no tracking issues etc. What are others experiencing, is this normal ? What are other drivers using ?

Tks

Ever since the original Goodyears wore out I've used Kumhos and have been very happy with them, but am probably going over to Michelin all seasons next.

Currently have just over 5.5mm on the front and just under 6.5mm on the rear of the P7’s, the car is on just under 18K miles which I would say less than 5K miles have been done on the winter tyres so basically the same mileage as you have done.

This is also on a 170 4x4 (L&K) you however get a much better average MPG than we get at around 42 ish (last time I checked) this is actual rather than indicated on the maxidot (which was approx 10% optimistic before I recalibrate it with VCDS)

I've done about 25k miles on a set of Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons and they're probably good for another 5k. This compares with about 20k from the original Dunlops. 140 TDi 4x4. 225-50-17.

I did about 23,000 miles on the original Conti 2's but found them quite noisy. However, my Yeti is a 1.2 DSG so I would expect your Yeti to be a bit harder on tyres. I changed to Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance and they are much quieter than the Conti's, also giving approx 2-3 MPG improvement as well. I have just changed to my Nokian winter tyres and they are certainly noisier than the Goodyear but, of course, provide much better performance in cold weather and snow or ice conditions.

Best bet at the moment seems to be the new all seasons tyres, AutoExpress recently did a comparative review (look on their website) and they all generally performed well but the new Nokian marginally came out the best. Other Briskoda members seem to like the Michelin CC's.

I did 22k on original Dunlops. Changed to Goodyear 4 seasons, now done 25k with maybe another 5k left.

Thanks to everybody who answered my questions.

It seems that I am being short changed on mileage by the Pirellis; I recall some years ago in the days of my impetuous youth I drove Pirellis for grip the soft compounds gave me. So maybe the current tyres share that same characteristic.

As I will be replacing the fronts in about 2 k miles, I think for stability and handling I will have to get P7s, at the end of their lives I may be in a position to change all 4 for something better.

Not half! That's excessive wear!

Ours is also a 170 Elegance 4x4 and is currently on 32000 miles and still running the original tyres (Pirelli P-zero Rossos). They are now nearing the legal limit and will be replaced in the next 2-3 weeks.

If yours need replacing at 15,000 then we have had more than double the mileage from ours! Suggests you have a suspension issue to me.

I suspect the reduced mileage also takes into account the different road surfaces and the type of driving involved, which in Ullapool is likely to be very different to Winchester. I know my tyre mileage reduced when we moved to Mid Wales.

I think you may hit on something here, I live 6 miles from the main road up a very poor, pot-holed, single track road, which even at low speeds throws the vehicle about. As I mentioned in my original thread the tread wear is absolutely fine and regular so I doubt if there is any sort of alignment or suspension problem. I may get in touch with the local Dealer to see if I can some more information about this issue. Last call, has any body else had these tyres who can give me any mileage data ?

Thanks, Mike

But I suspect it is down to the roads you are driving on
