ruined paintwork?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Well, I parked in an underground car park beneath a big block of flats yesterday, and when I came back I noticed that there was a white-ish liquid on my roof, door and on the mirror, and on the windscreen and bonnet. I tried to get it off with hot water and car shampoo but it hasn't worked - in fact it's dulled the paintwork in places. It looks like it is either chalk or calcium/lime deposits (it has been raining a lot this week) or some workmen are working on the flats painting and mixing some plaster stuff and it has leaked through to the basement. God knows how many other cars have been affected. To the touch it feels a little rough and powdery, as if something has been mixed with water.

So how do I get it off? It seems like my only option is to go to a professional and pay good money. It's a black car and that makes it even worse.

2015 has been an annus horribilis for me and this car - a big crash, thankfully repaired perfectly and then the DMF went and was repaired with a new one plus a clutch. What next I wonder?

Before starting too harsh and potentially seeing professionals, try first with something like AutuGlym Tar remover.. Or neat petrol.. Surprisingly it gets rid of lots of foreign bodies.. You could also try a mild abrasive polish, scratch x or something similar can be had from most local auto factors or halfords etc..

If neither shift of you may have to seek professional advice..

Hope the cheap fix works first though !

When I was at college there was a few cars who had this

It's the deposits from the concrete or what ever it's made out of was a total nightmare as loads of cars roofs were affected

But as above try cleaning with some of the shelf products

If I remember correctly the college ended up paying people to have their cars cleaned....

Fixed it! In 15 minutes, with a 50p bottle of pure white vinegar! I just dabbed it on, left it for a few minutes and then washed it off. Completely disappeared and no damage of course to the paintwork. Sometimes it pays to trawl the net and youtube to see if anyone has a solution. Phew!

just make sure you give it a polish over the top and a wax as it will have stripped any wax protection off too!
