What's the most km you did on a single tank?

Featured Replies

Hm, that's like 4.4l/100km, which is quite remarkable. I take it she did no city driving then?

yes very little stop start driving, mostly traveling to and from work which is around 80km round trip at motorway speeds and little congestion, i struggle to do that in my VRS diesel

Motorway speeds are what in Aus? I ask because I did 130 in a recent trip from Estonia to Austria and got 7.9L/100. You dont even want to know what I got at 185kmh...

Yeah the limits are lower in Australia. 100 or 110kmh. I think a couple of states have introduced 130kmh on a couple of it's highways.

It's amazing the difference a few kmh can make. If keep the speed 120kmh or below then I can do 58mpg (4.8l/100km) but start to raise that to 130kmh or above and it's more like 50mpg (5.6l/100km).

I think my next car will be a small petrol as they've really caught up/overtaken (not literally!) diesel engines in terms of performance and economy.

Maybe if you drive on cerosine you can get that consumption on flat road on 120 kmh. :)

Depend on road/fuel/tyre quality consumption can be from 5.3-5.8 lit. / 100 km on that speed.

This was as I pulled in to Poland to go to sleep. In 14 hours, averaging 101kmh (60mph) I'd used 7.1L/100km.

Can't tell if its because the DSG just uses a lot or the fuel in the countries I was driving though is ****

The powers that be here are very conservative, speed limits vary by State, typically they are 110km/hr and some state have 100km/hr

For example, see this:

Lawrence Huddleston, owner of Hud’s Auto Service in Lubbock, Texas, says gas topping can damage your car’s vapor collection system, designed to reduce harmful emissions.

Joel Carruso, owner of Caruso’s Auto Repair in Schenectady, New York, adds that these systems manage fuel vapor.

Overfilling the gas tank can cause liquid gas to enter the charcoal canister, or carbon filter, which is designed only for vapor. Gas in the system can affect your car’s performance by causing it to run poorly, and damage the engine, he says.

So could anyone tell me what's the verdict on this? Is it harmful to fill the gas tank to the brim in Fabia III or not?

I've done over 750km now with the 53l fill-up mentioned above, average consumption since the fill-up 5.4l/100km, and I still have about 1/3 of the tank left. Which I'm really happy about, as it means I'll probably be passing 1000km on one tank this time around.

I'd love to fill it up to the brim every time if only I knew for sure that it wouldn't have an adverse effect on the car's vapor collection systems and whatnot. It's a lot more convenient making lots of km on a single tank than making more stops at the gas station on the other hand.

Its not harmful unless you leave it parked up.

Venting is acceptable before a long run, but shouldnt be used otherwise.
