How many ex-SAAB owners?

Featured Replies

I've noticed a few posters mentioning SAABs in their past and, as a current SAAB 9-5 owner who is considering a Superb, I'm curious how many of us are here.

Yes owned an old style 9-3 hatchback and two 9-3 convertibles the last being a twin turbo diesel that was so much trouble sadly I got rid.  Real shame because it was a great looking car.  I am also an Ex Skoda owner now as well.

Current owner still. 2005 (late facelift but pre Dame Edna) 2.0T. Probably keep it another year but wanting an S3. Back around 2010 I was thinking about the new gen 9-5. A beautiful car but I wasn't (like so many) prepared to commit given the unknowns about GM and SAAB. Was a real shame they went and couldn't be saved. But I love my turbo petrols and not only do think the S3 looks great, the 220 and 280 engine options are the deal breakers.

I still think the last generation convertible is one of the best looking rag tops about for the price.  I have also often looked at buying a 9000 as a cheap classic to knock about in.  I think it was a massive shame they went to the wall but by that time I was well disgruntled with the make or more to the point with the service department at my dealers.

I had several SAABs (9-3 hatchbak, 9-3 convertible, 9-3 Viggen, 9000 CS and 9-5 SW). Except for the highly problematic Viggen, the rest of them were completely reliable. The first 9-3 (2001 diesel) was a company car. I almost replace it with a 9-5 SW, but that was the time of the Viggen nightmare, worsened by the local dealer incompetence, so I decided to go for a Volvo.

In 2006 I bought a second hand 2000 9-5 SW for my wife. Roomy and comfortable, we replaced it two years ago for a 2009 Mazda 6 diesel. We still miss it.

Rest of them were particular cars: a 1993 9000 CS, with the legendary 2.3 turbo engine; a 2000 Viggen bought in 2004 that was a nightmare, and I decided to swap it for a 2005 9-3 convertible 2.0T 210 HP. Absolutely great and fantastic. When my wife got pregnant in 2008 she didn't want a convertble so I sold it and bought a 2001 Jaguar XK8. Another nightmare, being sold a year later after an engine replacement.

I missed Saab :'(

Last car was a 2005 9-5 Aero estate. I loved it but SWMBO didn't. Was effortless to drive comfy and big enough for the 4 of us plus all our gear. The only downside was it's appetite for Shell super unleaded when pressing on . It is one of the few cars that I have had that I really miss.. Oh and it was plenty quick enough when needed.

Just had the one for a short while as a company car before I got made redundant. It was an 11 plate 93 SW. Thought it was a great car and loved the heated seats but a little short on space in the back.

The person who took it on, left it in a car park by the Thames and it got flooded but I gather it is still running.

Have had a Mondeo as a company car for the last three years but can now spec my own and ordered a S3 estate last week, with heated seats!

92 Saab 9000 CS 2.0

Loved it, effortless long distance cruising with amazing seats. 30-36 mpg - not bad for a big 1992 car

Had a 9-5 2.3LPT saloon.

2007 Saab 9-3 1.9 TiD

Most unreliable car I've ever had.. constantly going wrong.

The most unusual breakdown was when the gear-stick came off while drivin it!

Usual GM quality..

I recognise that. I currently have the Aero soon and my wife, who is tiny, hates the seats because her legs are too short. I'm not sure that a Superb will solve that problem.

2011 ttid4 sportwagon. Still got it actually.

had a 9-5 2.3 t estate.  Great car, would buy another if they made them!

Still got a '97 900 convertible (special edition Monte Carlo).

85 plate 900 Jubilee. Marchal driving lamps and 18 to the gallon. Loved it!

I have a 1990 900 convertible, the original shape, with the automatic box (blessed with 3 forward gears). Thankfully I didn't buy it for speed.

The 9-5 Aero has just started making a new noise, so I see the replacement plan moving forward a bit. I have a promotion interview today, which will decide whether I'm going to go for an SE-L or an L&K

I had an 9-3 SS on 05 Plate. Kept it for three years and 96k. Loved that car, only car I regret ever getting rid of. Only thing that went wrong was a broken spring during a real harsh winter and working off site in construction.

I'm my youth I had a 99GLS Auto. Lovely car to drive but only did 18-22 mpg. The auto box was shot too it would take 1/2 a mile to change out of first in a morning.

Would love one of the original 99 turbos.
