2 Door, Wet Carpet. Any one else had the same?

Featured Replies

Seems we have a leak and are getting wet carpet in the drivers footwell.

I know the Fabia Mk1 suffered from dodgy rear door seals.

Does the Citigo have the same problem, I wonder?

This only occurs after heavy rain, and I've just discovered jet washing causes it as well.

It's just out of warranty, by 2 months, and Skoda want £70 just to look at it, cheeky buggers!

Are your plenum chamber drain-holes clear of debris? If not, water (that should drain away) can get into the front footwells via the heating-system.

The plenum chamber is the large space at the base of the windscreen UNDER the black plastic trim (the thing with three small drain holes in it). There is a rectangular drain-hole at each end of the chamber which can get blocked with debris.

This problem has been discussed before on here and on the VW Up! forum...and the plenum chamber is the main problem.

Thanks for that.

I do regularly clear the debris from the plastic panel between the screen and bonnet but will now check underneath it.

Does it come away easily? (Not got my car to hand to check but do suffer from lots of leaves & other plant related debris when parked up in usual space.)

You do NOT need to remove the black plastic trim to clear the debris from the plenum chamber. Open the bonnet and look at the spaces at the end of the trim panel...you can see into the chamber and there is a small  rectangular hole at either end  - they should be visible and clear of debris. If not, clear with a long thin object eg barbeque skewer

If you take the rubber seal off you can lift the black trim slightly. Do not lift a lot or you may broke the black trim. That's how I have cleaned it a couple of times.

I did it to reduce window misting.

Well I had a look the other weekend and the nearside hole was clear, but the drivers side had a leaf stuck over it.

Pulled that off and the carpet has dried out and no re-occurrence.

Happy days :)
