Thinking about changing

Featured Replies

Hi chaps over the past few weeks been thinking about changing the fabia to something more powerful like focus st fabia is 2013 so normally be looking at chaning it in a few more years time but was looking at getting a house in 2 years so wouldn't have the money for a faster car and there isn't really much more power to get out the fabia anyone else had same thoughts about changing

  • Any plans for a Santa Pod re-run next year - anybody? I missed last years at the last moment because of misfire problems (now sorted) I reckon my 0-60 time is 5.5secs, but thats unofficial using a G

  • Do not like the ST's engine since they dropped the 5 cylinder and went to a 4 pot :( The Ford build quality, especially the feel of plastics and shutting doors, is just not upto VAG cars IMO. Fiesta

  • I might have to take mine bk to Santa pod to see if I can improve on my 0-60 time!

I was one of the slower cars (of the mkII fabia vRS's that ran)  at santa pod, and still beat the focus st , and fiesta st that ran up the strip by about half a second ;) not sure an st would be faster.... some of the stage 1 fabias were over a second faster than the st's ...

ford overall faster in the real world, round the twisties of course ! (unless you get a few choice mods on the fabia!)

guess I'm just not a ford fan ;)

edit: I'm not thinking of changing... but if I was, I would look at the current polo GTI in 1.8 form :) and allegedly the new cupra will be even more powerful on the 1.8 engine!

Is your car mapped?

Only thing i like about the ST Focus is the engine.

And thats Volvo's doing, not fords.

But it is a good motor. Very tunable. Been in a 320bhp one, and it was spinning its wheels all the time.. Everywhere. But sounded well n went well.

I had also thought this until I had mine mapped then I fell in love all over again. I couldn't believe the difference, it felt like a brand new motor.

Fiesta ST is real good fun and the handling is pretty awesome though.

Oh. I was referring to the 5 pot.

I didnt know itd changed tbh.. :D

Yeah i agree on the build quality. Its really not up to much

No it's not but it's the cthe so the chances are looking slim as not many people will do it

Yes the 5 pot with decat sounds absolute amazing pops and bangs and been in it and it goes like stink I'd say far quicker than fabia

Yes polo gti would be nice in the 1.8 hopefully tuneable that's what's making me think about changing the fab it's not really tuneable and engines seem to be brittle with these oil issues

oh it goes well. still that problem of being FWD still though.

yeah plenty of pops and bangs, its cool haha.

they really pull well through the revs too, dont need to rev them high to get decent power

Exactly makes me want one but I've just spent like £400 on some brakes for the fab and with it being fairly new no mileage on it is it worth getting rid I think if got a map on it id love it but it would only manage like 200 bhp cos there's no tuning manouverability

That 205bhp will give you a 0-62 of 6 seconds, a quick quarter mile, and if you floor the throttle it goes pretty quick on the road,

it will leave a Focus or Fiesta ST behind.

What is it you want the car to do, go faster than the Speed Limit on the road,

or go quick on a Trackday?

There is loads of Quick cars around you just need to flash the cash and buy them.

You can probably pick up a bargain on a Seat Leon Cupra 265 or 280.

That's why I mapped mine cause didn't want to give a wee gd car with low miles away. U will get over +205bhp with a map and maybe 215 with map and intercooler. But don't get hung up on the numbers because the way it drives now is a big improvement

itd perhaps leave a standard Focus ST

but not a hope in hell once you start throwing some cash at the ST. something you cant really do with the vRS isnt it.

I think thats what the OP is thinking, anyway

That is kind of obvious is it not.

But he has a vRS, and that leaves a standard ST, and with another £600 spent it leaves a ST with £600 spent.

?

Have you had a run in a Twincharger yet?

They are just a Warm Hatch that does not handle etc,

they annoy many that throw money at the Hot Hatches that are Drivers cars though.

They might do 22mpg, or a 35mpg.  bit you can do 45 mpg plus if you want, and many cars that

have very similar performance struggle to get that unless they are Diesel engine Hot Hatches.

My standard vrs did 0-60 in 6.1sec@ Santa pod.

but the point is (i think).. you can tune the ST to get pretty good power.

you cant throw cash at the vrs and get power like that. theres not really much to do with them, is there

My standard vrs did 0-60 in 6.1sec@ Santa pod.

even a tuned ST wouldnt be much better unless its got a sorted diff though. They dont get their power down very well off the line tbh.

once you get going though.. that 320bhp 5 pot was good. it did go well.

Also had a go in a Fiesta ST with a made supercharger kit bolted on. That was good for 240bhp... great fun.

I think all the fast cars can be tuned a bit more,

and you can go buy an already fast one for a few thousand pounds and make it faster.

its just what you want from one.

If you want a manual box there is loads of choice out there.

I might have to take mine bk to Santa pod to see if I can improve on my 0-60 time!

the 1.8 with a big turbo is 300 + bhp.... check out some of the yeti build threads :)

the 1.8 with a big turbo is 300 + bhp.... check out some of the yeti build threads :)

Big Turbo = Big Money though. There's too much to prepare, piping, exhaust manifold etc. which are all custom works as nobody has developed a proper bolt-on (and forget) solution for the 1.4 TSI. That's the reason I am still not sold on doing this to the vRS as it would mean a huge commitment to keeping the car.

My point with remapping was that it's a vastly different car, that as another member said makes you almost fall in love all over again with the car.

A stage 2 vRS is faster than almost any stock 250bhp car and only starts to fall short after the 300bhp (stock) mark from what I've seen. 5.5" for the 0-60mph and amazing in-gear acceleration all the way up to 180-200kmh maybe.

I said in the past I had test-driven the new Cupra 280 and in all honesty it didn't feel any quicker than my stage 2 vRS in any acceleration below 180km/h. I found that strange to be honest and then I bought a high precision gps timer to do some basic acceleration measurements and to my surprise, the vRS matched or even bettered all of the Cupra's published times of 0-100, 60-160, 100-160 (km/h). That does not mean one bad thing about the Cupra obviously but rather, how amazingly transformed is a stage 2 car.

In order to get more performance than that, on a relatively new car of 0-5 years age, (no silly examples of 15 year old RS4s please) you really have to spend big.

Sure enough you can tune an ST or a Cupra as well but If you're options are a) remapping to stage 2  and  b  )  Buying a car near the 250bhp mark it's a whole world of difference (money-wise).

I understand the whole CTHE remapping difficulties but by now there must be tuners in the UK that are able to offer it, I just can't accept it's being done in other parts of Europe and UK can't do it. It's just not possible.

I would understand the need for a more refined and quality ride as a strong reason to change but power-wise there's a lot of real-world performance to get out of a twin charger before it starts to feels "slow", way too much.

Not sure money was the issue though? Its throwing money at it and tuning that the OP wanted to do?

Abit of a project if you like. Sounds fun.

Still waiting to hear from an Owner of a Skoda Fabia vRS with a CTHE Engine that has had a Remap.

We have heard of the 1 done at Ecotune, and that is it.

No idea what actual ECU was on that CTHE car with the APR Stage 1 map.

As to 2013 on VW, Seat & Audi 2013 on Twincharger Engines with a Remap,

not a peep out of anyone in the UK with one of those Remapped either.

Maybe this will be the thread someone with a Remapped CTHE Mk2 Fabia vRS posts the Dyno on,

before and after.
