Android SmartGate App Update

Featured Replies

Just got an update for the SmartGate Android App - it seems to have added the Little Driver and Skoda Drive app to the supported list.

Interesting to see if this means Drive will now work over WiFi Direct ..........

It seems to have an 'Upgrade Smartgate' option in it now as well ............

Any changes to the firmware?

Don't know, can't be arsed going back out to the car

It ain't gonna fix the issue I had with the WIFI

"The described potentional error is not a bug, it’s a applications feature".

Installed the app again and now have a little car icon on my notification bar asking me to disconnect my WiFi (home) connection... #uninstalling!

Yes, I am now upgraded to 1023 with WiFi Direct support.

When you go to upgrade you get two options, one without WiFi Direct and one with. You either end up on 1009 or 1023.

Got the upadate, havn't tested it yet.

When changed my phone to Nexus 5X (5.2" 1920x1080) the Skoda Drive tells: Your device isn't compatible with this version:

This is annoying when the app is compatible with my Nexus 7 (2013): 7.0", 1920x1200. Both has Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

And in true Skoda style, it I open the Service App it tells me there is an update and offers me 0928 again!

You couldn't make this stuff up!

That must have been what happened to mine. Was already on the newer version and upgraded through skoda service which "downgraded" me

At least with the updated Smartgate App you can now choose to upgrade to 1009 (no WiFi Direct Support) or 1023 (WiFi Direct Support).

All those that received them from the factory with 1009 on them and no WiFi Direct support can now upgrade :)

Skoda Drive need urgent update to support WIFI Direct.

18th of Dec another update to the Skoda Drive App for Android. Haven't tested yet, but at least the Play Store page seems to be unchanged regarding WiFi Direct support.

Will most likely write a longer post to andyvee's thread after more testing as its' title is more to the point.

Here is my short summary: Skoda Drive App for Android works with WiFi Direct now. I just drove 2 x one hour+ drives. 1st drive recorded precisely 30 minutes of driving which could be a fluke but it caught my eye. The 2nd trip wasn't recorded at all. Need to read up the manual again and check (=test) which connections can be on. On the 2nd drive I had USB charging on and phone connected via MTP mode to Columbus and finally an active WLAN Android HotSpot with Skoda connected to it. If you ask why on earth - it was a test in the sense of "because it's possible to do that". I'm guessing the WLAN HotSpot was too much.

My phone is Galaxy S5 with the latest Lollipop / Android 5 from Samsung.

On most Android devices you can't have any other WiFi connections running at the same time as a WiFi Direct connection. At a guess, the hotspot stopped the WiFi Direct connection to SmartGate.

It is working flawlessly on my HTC M8.

Yes, confirming that S5 with the below firmware does not handle WLAN HotSpot and simultaneous WiFi connections, not a normal one nor a WiFi Direct.

Kies: PDA:OK5 / CSC:OK1 / PHONE:OJ1

About Device: Build Number LRX21T.G900FXXU1POK5

Will try to squeeze a drive today which lasts over 30 minutes. Not sure if possible.
